On July 22, 2024, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Inverse, “There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2.” That was a discouraging update for fans hoping for a sequel, but it was not an announcement that Marvel had permanently canceled one. Feige also said another movie would acknowledge events from the first film, including “Certain giant things [that] came out of the ocean.”
What Kevin Feige said about Eternals 2
Feige made the comment in an interview with Inverse during the Deadpool & Wolverine press tour. His wording was specific: “There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2.” It describes the state of plans as he characterized them in July 2024; it does not establish what Marvel may decide later.

In the same interview, Feige said, “There are, and I think you’ve seen maybe in a trailer we’ve released recently, an acknowledgment of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean.” Inverse connected the remark to the Celestial Tiamut, whose emergence is a major event in Eternals, and to Captain America: Brave New World. That is an indication that the earlier film’s events would be acknowledged elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—not confirmation of a direct sequel.
Does “no immediate plans” mean Eternals 2 was canceled?
No. Feige did not say the sequel was permanently canceled, and the reported statement does not rule out a film being considered or announced later. It is best read as a dated update: in July 2024, he said there were no immediate plans.

The latest official project-announcement context in the available reporting is Disney’s July 25, 2026, San Diego Comic-Con announcement. It named other Marvel projects and dates but did not mention Eternals 2. That omission is not a comprehensive account of Marvel’s development slate, so it cannot establish either cancellation or the absence of development. The cited evidence does not verify Marvel’s definitive sequel plans as of October 2026.
What happened to the first film’s unfinished story threads?
The 2024 Inverse report pointed to several characters and story elements left open by Eternals. Their status should be kept separate from the question of whether a second film is planned:

- Eros (Starfox) and Pip the Troll: They appeared in the film’s post-credits scene, setting up a possible continuation. The report did not confirm a project or return date for them.
- Dane Whitman and the Ebony Blade: The film ended with Dane confronting the mysterious blade, another unresolved thread. The report did not confirm where or when that story would continue.
- Tiamut: Feige’s remark about giant things emerging from the ocean points to an acknowledgment of the Celestial’s emergence in another MCU project. It does not settle the other characters’ stories.
Inverse speculated that other Marvel projects could address some loose ends, but did not report a confirmed project or schedule for these characters. An acknowledgment of one event is not evidence that every open plotline will be continued.

Marvel’s 2021 description presented Eternals as the story of heroes who had protected Earth since ancient times, with events spanning 7,000 years. Feige described the film as introducing ten heroes who had not previously been seen but had been part of the universe all along. The movie’s broad cast and mythology left room for further stories, but that setup alone does not show that a sequel is in active development.
