Among the seven released feature films in this ranking, Juno is Diablo Cody’s strongest overall, while Jennifer’s Body has become her most striking example of a film finding a different audience over time. The order below weighs screenplay voice, character complexity, tonal control, rewatchability and audience afterlife; it is a critical judgment, not an objective score.
What counts in this ranking
This list covers seven released feature films with Diablo Cody credited as a screenwriter, including Paradise, which she also directed. It does not treat producer-only credits as screenplay credits. The Rotten Tomatoes percentages below are snapshots displayed on its filmography page when accessed in 2026, not fixed or independently verified measures of quality. They represent critic and audience scores on that aggregator, not attendance, sales or awards. Rotten Tomatoes’ Diablo Cody filmography.
The ranking
1. Juno (2007)
Juno remains Cody’s most complete feature screenplay: its distinctive dialogue gives the film a memorable voice, but the characters and their choices keep that voice from becoming the whole point. The coming-of-age story balances comic invention with the uncertainty and consequences at its center. Its broad critical and audience agreement is reflected in Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 snapshot: 93% from critics and 88% from audiences.
2. Tully (2018)
Tully is a more restrained showcase for Cody, built around the exhaustion and disorientation of motherhood rather than the verbal fireworks associated with Juno. Its strongest writing comes from the pressure on the central character and the way the film lets an intimate domestic story shift in tone. The 2026 Rotten Tomatoes snapshot was 87% critic and 75% audience.

3. Young Adult (2011)
This adult character comedy-drama makes an unusually unsparing choice: its protagonist’s self-absorption is not softened into a conventional redemption arc. That gives the film a sharper edge than a more reassuring story would have, though its bleakness can make it a less inviting repeat watch. The film’s 2026 Rotten Tomatoes scores show a notable split—80% critics and 49% audiences.
4. Jennifer’s Body (2009)
As horror, Jennifer’s Body gives Cody a different vehicle for her interest in female friendship, resentment and power. Its mix of horror and dark comedy is deliberately unruly; that volatility can be a strength, though it also makes the film less consistently controlled than the entries above it. Its reception deserves separate consideration from its initial critical standing: the film has since become a prominent case of an audience reevaluating a work after its first release. The 2026 Rotten Tomatoes snapshot was 47% critic and 36% audience, figures that describe one review aggregator’s display rather than the film’s lasting cultural standing.
Rank #2
5. Lisa Frankenstein (2024)
Lisa Frankenstein returns to horror-comedy, filtering a coming-of-age story through an eccentric romantic fantasy. Its heightened style and oddball premise give it a clear identity, and its audience score was considerably higher than its critics’ score in Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 snapshot: 82% audience versus 52% critic. That split suggests different responses to the film’s particular mix of camp and sentiment, rather than a consensus verdict.
6. Ricki and the Flash (2015)
In this music-centered drama, Cody writes within a family story shaped by distance, regret and the possibility of repair. The emotional material is more familiar than the sharpest premises elsewhere in her filmography, and the screenplay has less room for the tonal surprises that make her best work distinctive. Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 snapshot listed 64% critic and 43% audience.
7. Paradise (2013)
Paradise is the outlier: Cody wrote and directed this feature about a woman rethinking her beliefs and desires after a crisis. Its premise creates room for irreverence, but the result is less assured in tone and characterization than the films above it. Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 snapshot listed 20% critic and 30% audience. The low scores are one measure of its reception, not a substitute for explaining why it ranks last here.
How the scores compare
These dated Rotten Tomatoes percentages help show where critics and audiences diverged, but they should not be mistaken for a universal ranking. The strongest critic-audience gap in this snapshot belongs to Lisa Frankenstein; Young Adult also drew a higher critic score than audience score. The two groups were closer on Juno and Paradise. Scores can change as reviews are added or the page is updated.

What is outside the list
This ranking is limited to the seven released screenwriting features identified above. Producer-only titles, including I Love You Forever and Forbidden Fruits, do not qualify under that scope. A 2026 GamesRadar+ report described Jennifer’s Body 2 as in development and relayed Cody’s comments about its possible direction; it is not a released film and is not ranked here.
