After Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in September 2024, Elon Musk posted on X: “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.” The post was widely criticized as creepy and sexist, and some interpreted it as a sexualized threat. Its wording, however, does not explicitly threaten force or say Musk would impregnate Swift against her will.
What happened after Swift’s endorsement
Following the September 10, 2024 presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, Swift endorsed Harris and Walz on Instagram. She signed her post “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady,” a reference to comments by Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance about Democrats without biological children. Global News reported on the exchange on September 11, 2024.

Musk replied on X: “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.” His post connected its offer of a child and promise to protect Swift’s cats to her “Childless Cat Lady” sign-off. PolitiFact reproduced the post in its September 18 fact-check.
Was it literally a threat to impregnate Swift?
The documented post says Musk would “give” Swift a child; it does not explicitly say he would force sex or impregnate her against her will. Calling it a threat is an interpretation of the sexualized, unsolicited wording, not a direct quotation or a description of an explicit threat of force.

#1 Best Overall
- Taylor Swift's 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, will be released worldwide October 3, 2025
Critics condemned the remark. PolitiFact reported that commentators called it creepy, painfully unfunny, and misogynistic. Hillary Clinton characterized it as “another way of saying rape.” That was Clinton’s interpretation of the post, not Musk’s literal wording.
Did Taylor Swift respond to Musk?
PolitiFact found no evidence that Swift publicly responded to Musk’s post on her social accounts in the records it checked for its September 18, 2024 fact-check. A viral screenshot purporting to show Swift offering to raise Musk’s daughter Vivian was false.

- The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th
Vivian Wilson, Musk’s daughter, did criticize the post on Threads on September 11. PolitiFact reproduced her remarks: “I don’t really have anything to add to it, it’s just abhorrent,” and “It’s disgusting, it’s belittling and incredibly sexist.”

No. A separate viral screenshot claimed Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce had threatened to twist Musk “into a pretzel.” PolitiFact found no evidence Kelce posted it; the screenshot’s text was adapted from an unrelated inside joke rooted in baseball trash talk. That fabricated response should not be confused with Musk’s authentic X post. PolitiFact’s September 13, 2024 fact-check explains the claim.
