The strongest reporting points instead to a real German man living in Fiji, but neither that reporting nor the public exchanges proves who controlled the account: the sources reviewed provide no authenticated X account logs or device records.
What is the Adrian Dittmann allegation?
The rumor says Musk used “Adrian Dittmann” as an alternate persona on X, including to praise himself and express views aligned with his own. It spread in part because some users heard similarities between the two men’s voices and noticed similarities in their communication styles. A live audio encounter also fueled comparisons. Those similarities may prompt questions, but they do not establish that one person controlled both accounts. Mimikama’s fact check likewise found no conclusive evidence that Musk was behind the account.
What evidence points to a separate Adrian Dittmann?
In a January 4, 2025 investigation, The Spectator’s Jacqueline Sweet reported that the account appeared to belong to a real German man named Adrian Dittmann living and working in Fiji. Her account connected public profile details and posts to the man’s reported biography, family business, and location. This is a journalistic identification based on public clues—not an authenticated record of who logged in.
Biographical and location clues
During a July 2023 X Space with Musk, Dittmann described growing up in Gibraltar, spending a few years in Morocco, and being in Oceania. Sweet reported that these details fit the Fiji-based man and his family’s history. She also compared public posts and media, including a government video and references to local time and Fiji-related details. These contextual matches support her reporting, but do not independently verify account control.

Business connection and the X Space
Sweet reported that the family’s Totoka Islands business entered the Musk Foundation’s XPRIZE Carbon Removal contest in July 2021, the same month the Dittmann account was created, and that the account later referred to taking part. The Spectator also quoted a Fijian government statement: “Originally from Germany, Mr. Dittmann has invested more than FJD 50 million in developing commercial agroforestry operations in remote areas of Fiji.” That figure describes investment attributed by the government to Dittmann; it is not evidence about who operated the X account.
The July 2023 conversation in which Musk and the Dittmann account spoke to one another is relevant to the case for separate identities, but it is not conclusive. The reporting does not authenticate the account-control records behind the exchange.

Did Musk admit that he was Adrian Dittmann?
No reliable admission is established by the sources reviewed. The Spectator reported that both Musk and the Dittmann account had denied being the same person. After Sweet published her investigation, Musk posted, “I am Adrian Dittmann. It’s time the world knew.” The Independent described the post as Musk playing along with the drama; it should not be treated as a substantiated confession.
What happened after the investigation was published?
In a January 7, 2025 interview, Sweet told CNN that X had informed her that her post and the Spectator story had been flagged as doxxing, and that links to the article were restricted. The CNN transcript records her account of the notice. The Independent also reported a temporary suspension of Sweet’s X account and an unsafe-link warning for people trying to open the story. These reports describe what Sweet and the outlets said happened; the sources reviewed do not establish that Musk personally ordered any enforcement action.

What can—and cannot—be concluded?
The public clues make the allegation understandable, but resemblance, a teasing post, and speculation are not proof of account ownership. Sweet’s reporting offers a detailed case that the account was associated with a real person in Fiji; Mimikama also says the claim that Musk operated it lacks conclusive proof. The sources reviewed do not provide authenticated X account logs, device records, or other independent technical evidence resolving who controlled the account.
Mimikama’s question, “Ist Elon Musk wirklich Adrian Dittmann auf X?”, translates as “Is Elon Musk really Adrian Dittmann on X?” The careful answer is that the claim remains unproven, while The Spectator’s reporting identifies a separate real person as the apparent account holder.
