What was the episode’s theme?
The performance aired during season 22’s Top 7 round. Coverage identified the episode as Adele Night, while Parade described the round’s song-selection format as the Judges’ Song Contest: judges anonymously chose songs for contestants, who then selected from the options. That format explains how the contestants received song choices; it does not establish why Russell interpreted this particular song the way she did. See Parade’s Top 7 interview.
Did Emmy Russell sit through the performance?
The reporting cited here confirms the song and describes the arrangement as slowed down, but it does not verify whether Russell sat throughout the performance. That stage detail should not be treated as established without checking the episode footage.
