That is why fans describe the episode as making SS4 canon. The careful qualification: the appearance is official, but it is not a formal ruling that every Dragon Ball continuity—or every version of Super Saiyan 4—belongs to one shared canon.
What happens in DAIMA episode 18?
In episode 18, Goku reaches a form identified as Super Saiyan 4. A contemporaneous report on the episode describes the reveal and notes the form’s earlier association with Dragon Ball GT (CBR’s episode 18 report).

The most precise takeaway is that Super Saiyan 4 now appears in DAIMA’s on-screen story. “Canon” is a useful shorthand for that appearance, but the available sources do not show a separate official announcement establishing a franchise-wide canon policy.
What does “canon” mean in this case?
Dragon Ball productions have multiple continuities, and the word “canon” can mean either that an event occurs in a particular story or that it belongs to a single, unified franchise timeline. DAIMA’s episode supports the first meaning: Goku uses a Super Saiyan 4 form within DAIMA. It does not, by itself, settle the second.

- On screen: DAIMA depicts Goku in a form identified as Super Saiyan 4 in episode 18.
- Production context: Toei Animation announced DAIMA as a new Dragon Ball anime and credited Akira Toriyama for original work, story, and character design (Toei Animation’s DAIMA announcement).
- Not established by those facts: That every Dragon Ball production shares one continuity, or that DAIMA’s form and GT’s version are formally declared the same across timelines.
Toriyama’s credited role is important context for DAIMA’s production, but it is not itself a general canon declaration. The episode’s appearance is the direct evidence for SS4 being part of DAIMA.
How does DAIMA’s form relate to GT’s Super Saiyan 4?
Super Saiyan 4 was previously associated with Dragon Ball GT, and DAIMA’s episode makes the familiar form part of a different series’ story. That connection is enough to explain why the reveal prompted discussion of canon. It does not establish, without a more explicit statement, that the two appearances share one continuous history or identical story context.

So the distinction is between the transformation’s recognizability and a continuity ruling: DAIMA depicts a Super Saiyan 4 form, while the sources cited here do not resolve whether DAIMA and GT are being joined into one timeline.
Why the “28 years” headline needs context
The 28-year framing refers to the gap between Super Saiyan 4’s debut in Dragon Ball GT and its DAIMA appearance. It describes the elapsed time between those productions; it does not establish that the form was absent from every Dragon Ball-related medium during that entire period, nor does it settle continuity.

Where and when DAIMA was announced
Toei Animation announced DAIMA in 2024 and said it would begin airing in Japan on October 11, 2024. The announcement credited Toriyama for the original work, story, and character design (Toei Animation’s series announcement).
Toei separately announced a historical subtitled Crunchyroll launch beginning October 11, 2024, in the United States, Canada, Latin America including Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, and Southeast Asia, with weekly subtitled simulcast episodes (Toei Animation’s September 12, 2024 streaming announcement). That release notice records the launch plan at the time; it does not establish current availability in any particular territory.

Official DAIMA Super Saiyan 4 Goku figures
For collectors, official product announcements identify two DAIMA SS4 Goku figures. Toei announced a Mini S.H.Figuarts version on February 28, 2025: an 80 mm figure with interchangeable facial expressions, wrist parts, and Kamehameha effects, scheduled for release in December 2025 (Toei Animation’s Mini S.H.Figuarts announcement).
A later Toei announcement, dated April 9, 2026, covered a standard S.H.Figuarts Super Saiyan 4 Goku -DAIMA- figure. It listed interchangeable hands and faces, an effect part, and bonus parts for another DAIMA Goku figure (Toei Animation’s standard S.H.Figuarts announcement). The announcements establish the products’ described features, not present-day prices or stock.

DAIMA makes Super Saiyan 4 part of its own on-screen story in episode 18. Calling that “making SS4 canon” is reasonable if “canon” means official within DAIMA; it goes beyond the cited evidence if it means a formal decision that every version of the form and every Dragon Ball continuity now share one timeline.
