Ed Sheeran introduced his song “Old Phone” through an Instagram archive, @teddysoldphone, featuring previously unseen photos from a phone he had stopped using in 2015. The campaign’s idea—old messages and images bringing people and memories back into focus—continued in the song’s video and its gathering of fans at the Old Phone Pub in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
What was Ed Sheeran’s Old Phone Instagram account?
Warner Music Ireland said on May 9, 2025, that Sheeran had launched @teddysoldphone ahead of the single. The account shared previously unseen photos from Sheeran’s actual old phone, making it both a visual archive and a lead-in to “Old Phone.”

According to the label, Sheeran stopped using the phone in 2015 and then moved solely to email. The account’s premise tied the device’s saved images to the song’s focus on memories and the connections preserved in personal records.
How did the archive connect to the song and video?
Warner Music Ireland described the official video as a reflection on connection and memory. Sheeran discussed the feelings stirred by finding old messages and photos from people who were no longer here. The video carried that idea into a gathering at the Old Phone Pub, a concept Sheeran developed in Ipswich, Massachusetts, where he met fans, heard their personal stories, and performed. Emil Nava directed the video, according to the label’s May 9, 2025 announcement.

The label attributed this account of the invitation to Sheeran: “I thought I’d build a pub somewhere, and do a gig, and I put it out there to my fans, and said do you want to come to this gig, go on your old phone and find a message that means a lot to you, or a video that means a lot to you”
