Edward James Olmos says the humanity of One Fast Move is what drew him to the film. In a People en Español interview published August 25, 2024, he described it as a story about family and community—and about understanding yourself, your past and the direction you are going.
What Olmos said attracted him to One Fast Move
Olmos put the film’s appeal in personal rather than racing terms. “Es una historia fuerte pero muy simple. Se trata de familia y comunidad, se trata de poder entenderse uno mismo para entender que ha hecho. Y lo que esta haciendo hoy y a donde va. Lo que me atrajo fue la clase de humanidad que tiene la película. Habla directamente a la gente que está viendo la película”.
In English, he called it a strong but simple story about family, community and self-understanding: making sense of what you have done, what you are doing now and where you are headed. He said its humanity spoke directly to the audience. The Spanish quotation follows the wording published by People en Español.
Who Olmos plays, and how Abel fits the story
Olmos plays Abel, an experienced mentor and motorcycle-shop owner. He is not Wes’s estranged father; Eric Dane plays Dean, the father Wes seeks out. Apple TV’s film listing identifies Kelly Blatz as director and Olmos as Abel, while EFE’s August 9, 2024 report describes the story’s father-and-son conflict.

The central character, Wes, wants to pursue professional motorcycle racing. His effort to do so intersects with the absence of his father and his connection with Camila. Abel’s role as a mentor places him in the story’s broader web of relationships, fitting the family and community themes Olmos emphasized without making him the source of the film’s plot summary.
The motorcycle project behind the family drama
Director Kelly Blatz’s interest in motorcycles shaped the production. EFE reported that Blatz wanted to make a grounded motorcycle-racing film and described the project as a tribute to motorcycles. He also taught K.J. Apa basic motorcycle riding for the shoot. Those are production details reported by EFE, not comments from Olmos’s People en Español interview.

What Olmos said about his next project
In the same People en Español interview, Olmos also discussed Valle del corazón, describing it as a story about Mexican Latino and Japanese cultures, love—or its absence—between them, and the Second World War. That was a separate project, not part of his remarks about One Fast Move.
