She worked with an assistant on the look, which used layered paint and airbrushing to create a farmer’s tan and sunburn. Kehne-Swisher’s comments were reported by Complex from her interview with Rolling Stone.
Who created Druski’s NASCAR look?
Makeup artist Kaylee Kehne-Swisher created the disguise for Druski’s “Proud to Be American” sketch. Complex described the character as an exaggerated patriotic NASCAR fan, with whiteface makeup, a mullet, a farmer’s tan, sunburn, tattoos and overalls. The sketch’s satire targeted overly patriotic and racist behavior; that portrayal should not be read as a description of NASCAR fans generally.
In comments reported by Complex from her Rolling Stone interview, Kehne-Swisher said she had roughly four to five days to prepare. She recalled receiving samples of the sunburn and mullet look, then developing the makeup from there. The four-to-five-day window refers to preparation time, not the duration of the application.
How did the makeup artist create the tan and sunburn?
Kehne-Swisher described building the effect in layers: first painting a regular skin tone, then airbrushing the outline of a shirt, and adding lighter tones and reds to model and speckle the skin. In her words, as quoted by Complex: “We basically painted the sunburn right on. After we painted him a regular skin tone, we airbrushed the entire shirt outline on. Then with lighter tones, we went over and speckled different reds and misted other tones of red to give it some modeling.”

The layered approach created the contrast between covered skin and the character’s exposed, sunburned areas. An assistant helped Kehne-Swisher complete the NASCAR look in about four hours.
How does the four-hour application compare with an earlier Druski look?
For an earlier “white boy accepted by the Hood” skit in May, Kehne-Swisher said she worked alone and spent about seven hours on Druski’s makeup. The comparison is between artist-reported estimates: the earlier solo application and the NASCAR look, which had an assistant.

Kehne-Swisher said she worked with Atlanta-based Hookup Tattoos and found temporary tattoos on Amazon, which she said came out “surprisingly good.” Complex’s report does not name the Amazon products, brands or specific designs, so an exact product match cannot be established from the available details.
