Bandai Namco frames it as a story-led RPG with additional content released after the base game. Whether that package is right for you depends on how much you want an interactive retelling and which DLC you expect to play.
What kind of game is Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot?
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot adapts Goku’s saga as an action RPG. Its central appeal is participating in a familiar story rather than simply watching it unfold. The official Bandai Namco game page describes the title in this story-and-RPG context and points to content beyond the original release: Bandai Namco Europe’s game page.

That distinction matters when deciding whether it suits you. If you want to experience the saga as a playable adventure, its premise is a natural fit. If your main interest is a dedicated competitive fighting game, the official material cited here does not establish how its combat compares with other Dragon Ball games, so don’t treat this review guide as evidence of that comparison.
Is it worth playing?
For fans who want a story-driven way to revisit Goku’s saga, the concept is compelling. The main question is whether you enjoy an RPG structured around that retelling, rather than whether the game reproduces the story as a passive viewing experience.

One identifiable review provides a limited reference point: GameSpot’s review page credits Heidi Kemps and lists a score of 7. That is one reviewer’s judgment, not a universal verdict or a platform-by-platform assessment. The available evidence does not establish a stable aggregate score across versions. See GameSpot’s review page and Metacritic’s review page.
Enjoyment and repetition are subjective, and the sources available for this guide do not establish hands-on findings about either. Consider the game’s story-and-RPG premise first; don’t infer from a single review score that every version or player experience is the same.

How do the base game and DLC fit together?
The base game is the starting point, while later releases add content. Bandai Namco’s official game news page reported DAIMA: Adventure Through the Demon Realm Part 2 available on January 15, 2026. The Dragon Ball Official Site announced Part 1 as available on July 17, 2025, and described the DAIMA Edition as including the base game and the DAIMA pack: Bandai Namco game news and the Part 1 announcement.
Those announcements establish that DAIMA content is part of the game’s later additions, but they do not mean every edition includes every DLC pack. Check the specific listing for the platform and content you want before buying. In particular, distinguish the DAIMA pack from any other add-on or season-pass content; the cited announcements do not establish that the DAIMA Edition includes all DLC.

Which platform or edition should you choose?
Bandai Namco America’s store lists physical editions for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, including a DAIMA Edition. Listings, stock and included content can change, so use the store page to verify the current edition details: Bandai Namco America’s store listings.
- Want the original story: Choose a base-game edition for your console or PC storefront, and confirm that the listing is for the intended platform.
- Want DAIMA content with the game: The DAIMA Edition is a relevant bundled option; confirm its current platform listing and the exact pack included.
- Already own the base game: Check the DLC listing for the specific part or pack you want instead of buying a bundle that may duplicate content.
- Choosing between physical and digital: Verify the format and how additional content is provided. The cited sources do not establish whether a particular physical edition supplies DLC on disc or by code.
Platform availability can vary by region and storefront. Although the official American store lists the named PlayStation and Xbox physical editions, check the relevant regional page for current options and verify PC or Switch availability in your local store. Do not assume that reviews of the original release describe technical performance on later ports or updates; the available review evidence does not compare them.

What to check before buying a physical copy
- Match the listing to your exact console generation—for example, PS5 versus PS4 or Xbox Series X versus Xbox One.
- Read the edition name and included-content description. A standard copy and the DAIMA Edition are not interchangeable if you specifically want the DAIMA pack.
- Confirm whether any desired DLC is included, sold separately, or supplied by a code. The cited sources do not verify the delivery method for a particular copy.
- Check the seller’s current stock, price, region and listing details. Bandai Namco’s official store confirms that physical listings exist, but not current Amazon availability or pricing.
For a physical Amazon search, use the platform-specific phrase “Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot PS5 game” only if you want the PS5 version. Then inspect the actual product page for edition and DLC details; the phrase itself does not confirm what a seller has in stock or what a listing includes.
