“Taboo” moves Goku and his companions into the First Demon Realm, where a comic introduction to the Gendarmerie Force gives way to an attack that points directly toward DAIMA’s endgame. The episode is setup rather than a major confrontation, but its jokes—especially a small chocolate-shop exchange—give the journey character and momentum.
What happens in “Taboo”?
Spoilers for Dragon Ball DAIMA episode 14.
Gomah prepares for the heroes’ arrival by mobilizing the Gendarmerie and calling in its special forces. The unit’s entrance is less fearsome than its official status suggests: its members lounge and snack before making a showy appearance reminiscent of the Ginyu Force. The episode review names Kadem, Danima, Hilla, Mashim, and Gaimoi among them.

The Gendarmerie later runs into Kuu and Duu at a convenience store. The would-be commandos offer to buy the Majin chocolate, then reduce their offer after checking how much money they have. Kuu and Duu are satisfied with what they get. It is a brief, affectionate joke built around the characters rather than a detour from the plot.
Elsewhere, Goku’s group finds Warp-Sama disabled and a barrier blocking the tunnel between realms. Goku strikes the barrier with his power pole and is jolted unconscious. Neva breaks it with a spell, revealing that he originally created the barrier to prevent raids between realms.

The group reaches the First Demon Realm, but the heat overheats their ship and forces them to abandon it. The Gendarmerie spots the newcomers and attacks. The episode ends with that attack underway, leaving the next conflict poised to begin.
Why does the episode feel like a launch into the endgame?
“Taboo” moves the heroes into a new realm, explains why the route between realms was blocked, and brings Gomah’s forces into contact with them. Those transitions matter more than a self-contained battle here: the closing attack supplies the immediate hook, while the episode puts the pieces in place for the confrontation ahead.

Kyle Fraser’s February 11, 2025 review for Boss Rush calls it an effective setup installment, saying, “This is the set-up for the final stretch.” Fraser praises the pacing for getting the characters where the next conflict requires them without making the episode dull, while noting that setup can be overshadowed by anticipation for what comes next. He gives it four stars; that rating is his critical judgment, not a measure of audience consensus. [Boss Rush review]
Does the Gendarmerie feel like a real threat?
The Gendarmerie’s theatrical entrance invites comparison with the Ginyu Force, but the resemblance also raises a question about balance. Fraser argues that the Ginyu Force’s silliness worked alongside a credible degree of danger. In his view, DAIMA’s new unit risks becoming mere comic relief unless the story gives it enough time to establish its threat. The attack at the episode’s end begins that test; “Taboo” does not yet settle the question.

Neva’s spell clears the heroes’ path, and his admission that he made the barrier gives him a consequential connection to the divisions between realms. Fraser treats Neva’s power and past actions as a source of intrigue, but the episode leaves his ultimate agenda uncertain. It suggests room for more from the character without confirming that he has a hidden plan.

In a February 10, 2025 article, ComicBook.com described DAIMA as entering its final stretch and reported that episode 20 was scheduled for February 28, 2025. That is historical schedule context reported at the time, not a current listing or an official schedule announcement. The same article places DAIMA in the franchise timeline after the Majin Buu saga and before Battle of Gods. [ComicBook.com’s February 10, 2025 report]

Verdict: a funny, purposeful setup chapter
“Taboo” earns its place in DAIMA’s final stretch by combining forward movement with small character beats: the Gendarmerie’s self-important arrival, its bargain over Majin chocolate, and the revelation behind Neva’s barrier. The new force’s danger and Neva’s intentions remain open questions, but the closing attack turns the episode’s setup into a clear lead-in to the next fight.
