Spoiler: No—Krypto survives Supergirl (2026). He is poisoned and needs an antidote, putting him in real danger, but the film’s ending confirms he is alive.
What happens to Krypto in Supergirl?
Krem’s poisoned dart leaves Krypto gravely ill. Kara has 72 hours to obtain and administer an antidote, according to TechRadar’s ending guide. The deadline makes the threat more than a frightening image in the trailers: the story turns Krypto’s survival into an urgent part of Kara’s mission.
In the film’s final scene, Kara and Krypto return to their apartment in Metropolis. He survives and is with her.
Why were fans worried?
DC’s teaser breakdown described Krypto as lethargic after the poisoning. That pre-release discussion explained the danger but did not confirm the ending.

Some viewers voiced concern beneath the official trailer. One commenter wrote, “But fucking James Gunn, making me fear for Krypto’s life”; another said, “I will NOT put myself through a pet being killed in a movie.” These are individual reactions in a Reddit discussion, not a poll or evidence that most fans felt the same way.
How the film’s comic inspiration relates to Krypto’s peril
Supergirl draws on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s 2021, eight-issue series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In the comic, Krem shoots Krypto with poison-tipped arrows, and Kara seeks material from him to make an antidote. That premise helps explain why some readers recognized the danger in the film’s setup, but the comic is not a dependable guide to the movie’s ending.

Director Craig Gillespie said the film took the story “to a different place,” adding: “So, for everybody thumbing through that Tom King novel right now, it’s different.” DC’s interview with Gillespie makes the adaptation distinction explicit.

Krypto is a companion in the Superman family. DC’s character profile gives his first comic appearance as Adventure Comics #210 (1955)—the debut of the comics character, not the film version.
