By peak demonstrated individual power, Frieza’s species has the strongest case for first place: Black Frieza defeated Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta after a decade of training in another dimension. Saiyans and half-Saiyans, Namekians, and Cerealians also have remarkable examples—but those feats do not establish how strong an average member of each group is. The official material available for this ranking does not support a reliable ten-place species leaderboard, so this list ranks the four biological origins with meaningful evidence and treats artificial fighters separately.
What “strongest race” means in this ranking
“What is the strongest race in Dragon Ball?” has different answers depending on whether you mean the strongest typical member, greatest biological potential, or the most powerful individual with a given origin. This ranking uses the strongest demonstrated individual associated with each origin, drawing on official story summaries and editorial material through the Super Hero and Granolah-era stories. It is an editorial comparison, not a canon order, and it cannot tell us which population is strongest on average.
That distinction matters: training, transformations, awakenings, wishes, and technology can all affect a fighter’s peak. The official figures that do exist are also from different story contexts, so they are not a single scale for comparing every character across the franchise.
| Rank | Origin or category | Evidence behind the placement | Key qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Frieza’s species | Black Frieza defeats Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta. | The case rests on exceptional individuals, not an established species average. |
| 2 | Saiyans and half-Saiyans | Goku and Vegeta reach powerful forms through training; Gohan’s Ultimate form is awakened during the Super Hero story. | The strongest-character comparison remains unsettled in official commentary. |
| 3 | Namekians | Orange Piccolo overpowers Gamma 2 with one blow. | Piccolo’s power follows Shenron’s “extra”; it is not representative of an ordinary Namekian. |
| 4 | Cerealians | Granolah becomes a major contender after wishing to become the strongest warrior. | His peak depends on an external wish, not a typical Cerealian trait. |
1. Frieza’s species
Frieza’s species takes the top spot on the strength of its best documented individual feat. The official Dragon Ball Super story summary says Black Frieza defeated Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta after training for ten years in another dimension. That puts Frieza’s origin at the top of this particular peak-feat ranking.

This is not proof that members of the species are naturally stronger than Saiyans or other peoples. The evidence centers on Frieza, an exceptional fighter whose training and forms are part of his story. The Dragon Ball Official Site’s 2021 feature gives his first form a power level of 530,000 and says he defeated King Vegeta in that form. That figure is a published in-story number for one character at one point—not a species statistic or a universal measure that can be directly compared with later fighters.
2. Saiyans and half-Saiyans
Saiyans have multiple elite examples rather than just one: Goku and Vegeta reach Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan through training, and the Super Hero story describes Piccolo and Pan’s plan helping awaken Gohan’s Ultimate form. Gohan is a half-Saiyan, so this entry groups Saiyans and hybrids whose power is tied to Saiyan ancestry; it does not claim hybrids are a separate species or that all Saiyans can reach these levels.

The second-place position is necessarily provisional. In an official Dragon Ball Site interview, manga artist Toyotarou raised the question of who is strongest among Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, and Broly, underscoring that the leading fighters do not have a simple, settled order. Their forms and individual achievements demonstrate exceptional peaks, not the average strength or fixed potential of the Saiyan population.
3. Namekians
Namekians rank third because their demonstrated ceiling rises far beyond the figures associated with ordinary members. In the Super Hero story summary, Shenron’s “extra” activates Orange Piccolo, who overpowers Gamma 2 with one blow. That is a significant feat for a Namekian fighter, but the boost comes through an awakening, so it should not be read as the natural strength of an average Namekian.

A 2021 Dragon Ball Official Site editorial also shows how much strength can vary within Namekian society: it reports roughly 3,000 for non-warrior youths and 42,000 for Nail, the only warrior-type Namekian on Namek at the time. Those dated, in-story figures illustrate variation within the group; they do not rank Namekians against later-series characters on a shared scale.
4. Cerealians
Granolah is the key evidence for Cerealian power, but also the reason to be cautious about this placement. The official story material identifies him as the sole surviving Cerealian and says he uses his planet’s Dragon Balls to become the strongest warrior. His exceptional peak is therefore wish-enhanced, not a fair proxy for an ordinary Cerealian.

Because the feat depends on an external wish, this ranking places Cerealians below origins with multiple powerful examples or a clearer case based on combat feats. Granolah’s result still makes his origin relevant to the comparison; it just does not establish a species-wide advantage.

Gamma 2 and Cell Max are identified as androids in the official Super Hero summary, and both are powerful artificial fighters. They do not fit a biological species ranking in the same way as Saiyans or Namekians: their abilities are technologically created, and the category can include beings with different designs and origins. Gamma 2’s fight with Piccolo is part of the evidence for Piccolo’s Orange form, but it does not make “android” a comparable biological race entry.

Why this is not a top ten
The official material supports meaningful comparisons for these four biological origins, but not ten responsibly ranked species. It also does not establish a definitive canon order: in the same Toyotarou interview, the strongest-character discussion includes Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, and Broly, with Black Frieza also in the conversation. A full ten would require adding categories without comparable evidence or pretending that one exceptional fighter represents an entire population.
The clearest conclusion is narrower: Frieza’s species has the strongest documented peak in this evidence set, while Saiyans, Namekians, and Cerealians each have a powerful but differently qualified example. Change the metric to average member strength or unenhanced biological potential, and the available evidence does not establish these placements.
