What happens at the end? (Spoilers)
Zora Bennett, Duncan Kincaid, paleontologist Henry Loomis and the Delgado family reach a boat while trying to escape Ile Saint-Hubert. The D-Rex intercepts them, and Duncan uses a flare to draw the dinosaur away from the others. As the group prepares to leave, they see another flare and reunite with Duncan as he swims back.
How Duncan gets away
The film shows Duncan returning, but does not spell out exactly how he escapes the D-Rex. Mahershala Ali, who plays Duncan, offered his own explanation in a CinemaBlend interview: “I think he went… I think he distracted… The flare went out, and I think he went underwater and kind of like, you know, swam away very quickly.” Ali said he had not discussed the specifics with director Gareth Edwards, so this is the actor’s theory, not a confirmed account from the film’s creators.
Do the characters survive, and does the ending confirm a sequel?
Us reports that the three leads survive. Zora also intends to open-source the three dinosaur DNA samples her team acquired. That decision could create consequences in a future story, but it is a plot point viewers can interpret—not confirmation that a sequel is planned or what it would contain. The film’s immediate crisis ends with the group escaping; the ending does not itself announce a next installment.

What is the DNA mission about?
The official NBCUniversal film page places the story five years after Jurassic World Dominion. Dinosaurs now survive mainly in isolated equatorial environments, and the mission is to obtain DNA from three large creatures spanning land, sea and air. In the film’s fictional premise, that material could help create a drug with life-saving benefits; TIME’s account describes the proposed drug as one that could cure heart disease. This is a story premise, not evidence of a real treatment.
Jurassic World Rebirth, directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, opened theatrically in the United States on July 2, 2025, according to NBCUniversal.
