Diogo Jota shared a video featuring highlights from his wedding to Rute Cardoso shortly before he died in a road crash in Spain on 3 July 2025. The couple had married in Porto 11 days earlier, on 22 June. Coverage described the post as appearing hours before the crash, but did not establish its precise posting time.
What was in Jota’s final social media post?
Sky News reported that Jota’s final Instagram post before his death was a video of moments from his wedding day. The caption reported by Sky was “A day we will never forget.” Sky News and The Standard both described the post as a wedding video.
When did Jota marry, and when did he die?
- 22 June 2025: Jota and Rute Cardoso married in Porto, according to Sky News.
- 3 July 2025: Liverpool FC confirmed that Jota, 28, died in a road traffic accident in Spain alongside his brother, André Silva. The club’s statement expressed its devastation at his death.
The wedding took place 11 days before the crash. News coverage said Jota posted the video hours before the crash, but the sources do not give a precise post time; an exact number of hours cannot be established from those reports.
What is confirmed about the crash?
The Associated Press reported that Spain’s Civil Guard confirmed the brothers died in a car crash near Zamora, Spain. The AP report provides that location and confirmation. The available reporting cited here does not establish a cause, so no further explanation of how the crash happened is warranted.
