The Ravening War is a Dimension 20 series set in Calorum before A Crown of Candy. Matthew Mercer is associated with the project alongside Dimension 20 regulars Brennan Lee Mulligan, Aabria Iyengar, Lou Wilson, Zac Oyama and Anjali Bhimani. The series premiered on Dropout on May 10, 2023.
What is The Ravening War?
The Ravening War is a tabletop role-playing story in Dimension 20’s fictional setting of Calorum. Dropout’s official premise describes a conflict that takes root and soon envelops the land. The series is a prequel to A Crown of Candy, so it explores events set earlier in the same world.
The premise establishes the setting and broad conflict, but does not provide a complete account of the collaboration or a role-by-role breakdown of its participants.
How does Matthew Mercer fit into the series?
Dropout’s official trailer page tags Matthew Mercer alongside Brennan Lee Mulligan, Aabria Iyengar, Lou Wilson, Zac Oyama and Anjali Bhimani. Those tags establish their association with the project, but do not by themselves identify each person’s role. Dropout also has a behind-the-scenes feature in which Mercer explains how he became part of the series.

Do you need to watch A Crown of Candy first?
The official premise places The Ravening War before A Crown of Candy, but Dropout does not state that viewers must watch the earlier-released series first. If you want to encounter Calorum in its original Dimension 20 story, start with A Crown of Candy; if you prefer chronological order, begin with The Ravening War. The premise confirms the shared setting and earlier timeline, not a required viewing order.

What should viewers know about episode count and content warnings?
Dropout’s series page displays “9 Episodes” while also listing supplementary behind-the-scenes videos. It does not clarify on the page whether that displayed count refers only to story episodes, so it should not be treated as a confirmed total of narrative episodes.
The same page provides episode-specific content warnings and timestamps. Visible examples include flashing video, self-harm, misophonia and brutality toward genitals. Check the relevant episode entry on Dropout’s page for its full, current warning list before watching.
