The show ran from 1990 to 1996, according to NPR’s Fresh Air archive. The distinction is between when the debt problem began and when money was reportedly taken from Smith’s later paychecks.

CBS reported that, during the first three years of the show’s six-year run, the IRS would take 70 percent of Smith’s paycheck. What is and is not independently confirmed
