Dolly Parton missed the IAAPA Hall of Fame ceremony on November 17, 2025, where she was inducted for her work with Dollywood. In a video message reported by Global News, she said she had been dealing with “a few health challenges” that fall and that her doctors had told her to take it easy. Parton later died on August 25, 2026, at age 80, after a brief battle with cancer, according to the Associated Press.
What Parton said after missing the ceremony
Global News reported on November 20, 2025, that Parton had shared a video message after missing the event. The outlet quoted her: “Well, hey there, it’s Dolly. And I sure wish I could be with you in person today, but you probably heard that I’ve been dealing with a few health challenges this fall, and my doctors told me to take it easy for just a little while.”

That message did not name a diagnosis. The reported wording described health challenges in the fall of 2025 and advice from her doctors at that time; it was not a later or ongoing health update.
Why Parton was being inducted
IAAPA’s Hall of Fame page lists “Dolly Parton, Dollywood (2025),” and the organization’s announcement names her among the 2025 inductees. IAAPA says its 2025 Legends event took place November 17. Parton’s message explained why she could not attend in person, while recognizing an honor tied to Dollywood.

What happened afterward
On August 25, 2026, the Associated Press reported that Parton had died at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. AP attributed that information to a statement from her publicist, Marcel Pariseau, who said: “After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.”
The cancer information comes from the later statement reported by AP. It was not disclosed in Parton’s November 2025 message, which did not specify a diagnosis.
