Dogwelder is a grotesque, darkly comic DC character associated with Section Eight and writer Garth Ennis. The “too strange for Suicide Squad” framing captures how unusual the character is, but DC’s official material does not confirm that he was considered for, rejected from, or selected for a Suicide Squad film.
Who is Dogwelder?
Dogwelder is a member of Section Eight, the offbeat team at the center of All-Star Section Eight. The character’s deliberately grotesque premise and dark comedy fit the series’ eccentric tone. DC credits Garth Ennis as the writer of All-Star Section Eight #5, and lists both that series and the later Sixpack and Dogwelder: Hard-Travelin’ Heroz among his works. DC’s Garth Ennis profile describes his writing as bringing together dark, humorous, and hopeful material.
The official synopsis for All-Star Section Eight #5 says, “Dogwelder receives a clue to his origins, and the rest of Section Eight begin to drift apart.” That signals an origin mystery in the issue; it does not provide a complete account of Dogwelder’s backstory or abilities. DC’s issue page credits Ennis as writer and John McCrea for art.
Was Dogwelder considered for a Suicide Squad film?
The official DC character and publication pages cited here do not establish that Dogwelder was ever considered for a Suicide Squad film. Without an attributable source confirming that production story, it is best treated as an unverified claim—not as part of the character’s documented history. The comparison works as a way to convey Dogwelder’s strangeness, not as evidence of a casting or adaptation decision.

Where does Dogwelder’s story continue?
All-Star Section Eight
Start with All-Star Section Eight for Dogwelder in the context of his team. DC’s page for issue #5 is a useful entry point for the origin mystery, though the page’s synopsis alone does not explain its resolution. The issue was listed with an on-sale date of October 28, 2015, and a U.S. price of $2.99 at publication; that price is historical, not a current retail quote. The same page lists 32 pages, color, and a Teen Plus rating.
Sixpack and Dogwelder: Hard-Travelin’ Heroz
DC describes Sixpack and Dogwelder: Hard-Travelin’ Heroz as taking place after the events of All-Star Section Eight. In issue #1, the pair head beyond Gotham City. By issue #6, DC describes their adventures reaching the stars, calling it “the most epic buddy story in history” as the duo take their brand of social justice there.
