This review covers only the first two episodes of Dispatch and avoids story spoilers. They introduce an appealing cast and a clever dispatcher role, but the larger choices are still building toward their payoff.
What is Dispatch?
Dispatch is an interactive narrative adventure from AdHoc Studio. You play Robert Robertson, formerly the armored hero Mecha Man, who loses his mech suit and takes a desk job at the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN). Instead of routinely fighting villains yourself, you manage a team of reformed former villains, learn what each can do, and send them to emergencies.
The premise blends branching dialogue and relationships with tactical decisions about who is best suited to a call. Its opening also introduces SDN colleagues including Blonde Blazer and Chase. That workplace setup gives the story room for both superhero spectacle and jokes about the people doing the administrative work behind it.
How do the first two episodes play?
Episode 1 establishes the world
In Mike Straw’s October 21, 2025 review for Insider Gaming, the first episode is a gradual introduction to Robert, the SDN, and the ensemble rather than a deep tour of every system. It lays out the setback that puts Robert behind a desk and begins to establish the personalities around him.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Episode 2 clarifies the dispatch loop
The second episode gives a clearer sense of the central work: assess an emergency, then choose one hero or a combination whose abilities fit the situation. Straw describes five attributes—Combat, Charisma, Intelligence, Strength, and Vigor—and says shifts end with a report on dispatch success and team improvement. The appeal is less about controlling a hero through a conventional action level and more about weighing a team’s strengths while the story unfolds.
Straw also notes intermittent hacking minigames and quick-time events (QTEs) during cinematic sequences. He found the QTEs distracting; according to the review, they can be toggled off. These are observations from his review of the opening episodes, not a claim that every player will react the same way.

What works—and what is still developing?
Character and presentation are the early strengths
Straw praises the visual presentation, voice performances, and character introductions. The tone is another strength: the writing can be sarcastic and funny without abandoning the sincere emotions beneath the workplace comedy. That balance helps the former-villain team feel like more than a lineup of powers to assign.
AdHoc co-creative director Dennis Lenart described the approach in Xbox Wire’s March 26, 2026 article: “We built every character as a real, imperfect person first—someone ordinary and recognizable.” The first two episodes’ focus on personalities fits that aim, though the opening is only an early sample of the full story.

The main caveat is the slow build
Some choices affect events immediately, but Straw’s central pacing reservation is that the bigger decisions feel as though they are being set up, with limited payoff by the end of episode 2. That is a meaningful distinction: the opening does offer consequences, but it has not yet resolved the longer arc of its choices. The review was published before the full release and explicitly left its final verdict for after all episodes.
Is Dispatch like The Wolf Among Us?
It shares the appeal of character-led, choice-driven storytelling associated with games such as The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, and Batman: The Enemy Within. The comparison is about narrative emphasis and the pleasure of following a cast through consequential conversations—not a promise that Dispatch uses the same structure or gives the player the same kind of control. Its dispatch-management premise gives it a distinct rhythm: part interactive drama, part team assessment.

A broader review can offer context, but it should not be mistaken for a verdict on these two episodes. PC Gamer’s November 13, 2025 review scored the full season 89/100, praising its scripted interactive-TV presentation, animation, and characters while noting limited interactivity as a trade-off. That is a full-season assessment, not an episode-specific score.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Dispatch worth playing after two episodes?
If you enjoy voice-led interactive stories, workplace comedy, and making tactical choices about a team rather than directly controlling a conventional superhero, the opening two episodes make a persuasive case to continue. Their strongest immediate reasons to play are the cast, visual style, and tonal mix. If you need a fast start or want major branching decisions to pay off quickly, the gradual introduction and still-developing larger choices may test your patience. This is an early-episode recommendation, not a judgment on the entire season.

Platforms, editions, and content notes
The October 2025 review discussed PC and PS5 availability. Since then, official listings and announcements have expanded the platform picture: Dispatch is listed on Steam and PlayStation; Xbox Wire announced Xbox availability in 2026, and Nintendo’s UK listing covers a Nintendo version. Availability and store details depend on platform and region, so check the relevant store before buying.
On PlayStation, the standard edition is the full game; the Digital Deluxe Edition adds a digital art book and four digital comics, according to the PlayStation listing. AdHoc announced physical Deluxe Editions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with the game, a 16-page printed SDN’s Guide to Dispatching, and a poster. The studio announced Q4 2026 delivery in its August 25, 2026 physical-edition announcement; that announcement is not confirmation that units have been delivered or are in stock at a particular retailer. A separate three-record soundtrack release was announced through Lost In Cult.
Content descriptions are platform-specific. Nintendo’s UK listing says some mature content from the original version has been modified for Nintendo platforms. The PlayStation listing includes descriptors for violence, nudity, sexual content, strong language, and drug and alcohol use. Check the listing for the edition and region you plan to play.
