Disney did not cancel the Hollywood premiere of its live-action Snow White: the film’s screening and pre-party went ahead at the El Capitan Theatre on March 15, 2025. The reported surprise was the red carpet’s limited media access. Variety reported that the usual invited outlets were not there to interview cast and filmmakers; photographers and an in-house crew covered the event instead. TheWrap, however, reported that this more modest format had been planned from the outset.
What happened at the Snow White premiere?
The premiere took place at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on March 15, 2025, with a pre-party and screening. Variety reported that Disney limited red-carpet coverage to photographers and a house crew, rather than inviting the dozens of media outlets that typically conduct interviews at Disney premieres. Variety’s March 2025 report said the studio did not comment for its story.

That means the event was held, but reporters did not have the usual red-carpet access for cast interviews. The film’s theatrical release followed on March 21, 2025. Disney describes it as a live-action musical reimagining of its 1937 animated film, directed by Marc Webb and starring Rachel Zegler, Andrew Burnap, and Gal Gadot. Disney’s film page provides the film details.
Was the premiere canceled or changed at the last minute?
No cancellation is reported. The disagreement between the contemporaneous accounts is about how the limited format came about, not whether the premiere happened.

| Variety | Disney did not stage the usual broad media red carpet; photographers and an in-house crew covered the event. The studio did not comment to Variety for its story. Variety |
| TheWrap | The comparatively modest event was planned that way from the outset, with about 1,000 guests expected, including celebrities, filmmakers, and press. Press were kept off the carpet. TheWrap |
So it is accurate to describe the event as having restricted red-carpet press access, and as more modest than a typical Disney premiere. The available reports do not establish that Disney abruptly canceled a larger carpet plan.
Why was press access limited?
Variety placed the premiere arrangement amid controversy surrounding the movie and its stars, including debate about Zegler’s comments and political speech by Zegler and Gadot. That is context reported by the outlet, not a confirmed explanation from Disney: Variety said the studio did not comment for its story. TheWrap’s account that the format was planned from the beginning further cautions against treating controversy as a proven cause.

A separate issue discussed around the film was the design of its seven characters. TheWrap attributed this statement to Disney in a response to ABC News: “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.” That statement concerned character design and consultation; it does not explain the premiere’s press arrangements. TheWrap’s report on the characters provides that context.
