The complaint reportedly alleged that Eugene Strickland weighed about 334 pounds, compared with a 300-pound limit reported for the slide, and was injured after his tube moved out from beneath him. Those are allegations—not findings of fault—and the dismissal was not reported as a ruling on their merits.
What the lawsuit was about
Eugene Strickland sued Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc. over an alleged July 31, 2021 ride incident at Blizzard Beach Water Park in Florida. The attraction named in coverage was the Downhill Double Dipper. ClickOrlando reported that the complaint was filed in Orange County on May 29, 2025, and described claims of negligence and failure to maintain safe premises. ClickOrlando’s May 30, 2025 report and NBC’s June 2, 2025 report recount the allegations.
What the complaint reportedly alleged
News reports describing the complaint say Strickland became “momentarily airborne” on the slide, the inner tube was dislodged, and he struck the hard plastic slide surface. The complaint characterized his claimed injuries as “permanent catastrophic injuries.” These phrases describe the plaintiff’s account and characterization; the sources do not establish that a court verified the events or injuries.
The same reporting attributed two weight figures to the complaint: Strickland’s approximate weight of 334 pounds at the time of the alleged incident and a 300-pound limit for the attraction. The coverage reviewed does not independently establish whether the limit was posted or how it was communicated to guests. The figures alone do not determine whether Disney was legally responsible.

What the $50,000 figure means
The complaint reportedly sought damages exceeding $50,000, exclusive of costs, interest, and attorneys’ fees. That was the amount requested in the case, not compensation awarded by a court or a reported settlement. ClickOrlando’s report describes the demand in its account of the court records.
What happened to the case
Two reports published October 5, 2026 say Strickland voluntarily dismissed his claims on October 2, with each side responsible for its own fees and costs: WDW News Today and Inside the Magic. The dismissal document was not directly reviewed for these reports, and neither gives a reason for the dismissal.

A voluntary dismissal is not, by itself, a court decision that the allegations were true or false. The reported case update does not establish a settlement, a finding of negligence, or that the slide’s weight limit caused the dismissal.

How to check the public case record
The Orange County Clerk of Courts offers an online records search and says it provides information for most cases from approximately 1990 onward. The Clerk cautions that not finding a result does not prove a case does not exist. The reports summarized here do not provide a case-specific docket entry that independently confirms the dismissal. The portal’s explanation and search access are at Orange County Clerk of Courts Records Search.
