What happens to Muichiro in the manga?
Muichiro, the Mist Hashira, dies during the later battle with Kokushibo in the completed manga. VIZ lists the official English Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Chapter 179, dated October 27, 2019. That listing is a navigation pointer; it does not display the chapter’s full story text.
The official anime character profile describes Muichiro as a prodigy who became a Hashira within two months of beginning training. His rank and exceptional ability make his later fate especially significant to the story, but they do not change the answer: he does not survive the Kokushibo battle.

Why viewers may wonder whether Muichiro survives
In the Swordsmith Village Arc, Muichiro faces Gyokko and is badly hurt while trapped in Gyokko’s Blood Demon Art. The official episode summaries describe that peril, then a renewed fight against Gyokko in episode 9. These events are not the end of Muichiro’s story; his death occurs later in the manga.
Does the anime show Muichiro’s death?
The official anime pages cited here cover the Swordsmith Village Arc, not Muichiro’s later battle with Kokushibo. They therefore do not show or establish that his death has been adapted. The manga is the source for the answer above; check current official anime arc announcements for up-to-date release coverage rather than assuming a manga event appears in a particular season or film.

The series is based on Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga, published under Shueisha’s Jump Comics imprint. The available official volume listing identifies volume 13 with the Swordsmith Village story, but does not establish which volume contains Chapter 179.
