Yes. In a May 2024 interview with Piers Morgan, actor Dennis Quaid said, “I think I’m gonna vote for him in the next election,” referring to Donald Trump. That was Quaid’s stated intention at the time—not confirmation of how he voted. He later appeared at a Trump campaign rally in Coachella, California, and continued to speak favorably about Trump in a 2026 interview.
What did Dennis Quaid say about voting for Trump?
Fox News reported on May 28, 2024, that Quaid told Piers Morgan he planned to vote for Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Quaid said his view had shifted in response to what he considered Trump’s record and what he described as the “weaponization of our justice system.” That characterization was Quaid’s own political claim, not an independently established finding in the interview reporting.

The statement was about what Quaid expected to do in the upcoming election. The reports do not verify how he ultimately voted.
Why did Quaid say he supported Trump?
Quaid presented Trump as someone who stood up to people and was working for Americans. In The Independent’s May 29, 2024, account of the interview, Quaid said, “He stands up to people, and that’s what makes him a leader.” He also said, “I really feel he is working for the American people. That’s what he’s all about and I do believe that to be true and sincere.” These are Quaid’s assessments of Trump, not neutral descriptions of his conduct.

The interview also produced a profane line that became a widely repeated headline: Quaid said that people might call Trump an “assh*le,” but “he’s my assh*le.” In context, the remark accompanied his explanation that he believed Trump stood up to people and was sincere in working for Americans.

Coachella rally, October 12, 2024
Quaid subsequently appeared at Trump’s campaign rally in Coachella, California, on October 12, 2024. Fox News reported that he urged the crowd to “pick a side,” framing the choice as the Constitution versus TikTok and law and order versus open borders. This campaign appearance was a later public action, distinct from his May interview statement about his intended vote.

Greg Laurie Show interview, February 2026
In a report published February 22, 2026, The Daily Beast said Quaid again spoke positively about Trump in an interview on the Greg Laurie Show. Quaid called Trump “approachable,” “very funny,” and “really genuine,” and described himself as a “common-sense independent” who leaned conservative. Those remarks show continued public praise in that later interview; they should not be confused with the specific 2024 statement about voting.
