Delicious was the name of a social-bookmarking service, also written as del.icio.us. Pinboard announced in June 2017 that it had acquired the service and that Delicious would become read-only on June 15, 2017. That announcement explains what changed then; it does not establish whether a particular old account or its bookmarks can still be accessed today.
What was Delicious?
Delicious let people save and organize web bookmarks. It also became a subject of academic work: a 2017 paper examined the historical service as a resource for temporal search in web archives. The paper, published February 3, 2017, concerns the service’s use in that research, not its present availability.
What happened to Delicious?
On June 1, 2017, Pinboard owner Maciej Cegłowski announced that Pinboard had acquired Delicious and that the service would switch to read-only on June 15. Cegłowski wrote: “You won’t be able to save new bookmarks after that date, or use the API.” The post also discussed export and migration options. These are statements about the planned 2017 transition, not confirmation that those options or account services remain available now. Pinboard’s acquisition announcement said Delicious had “over a billion bookmarks”; it did not date or explain that figure, so it should not be treated as a current count.
Can you still use an old Delicious account?
The 2017 announcement establishes that saving bookmarks and API use were to stop after June 15 of that year. It does not establish current account accessibility, whether a specific user can retrieve bookmarks, or whether export is still offered. If you need material from an old account, the announcement is useful historical context, but it is not evidence that recovery or export will work today.
Is Delicious.com the same service?
No connection between the two services is established by the available sources. A separate Delicious.com privacy policy, last updated June 20, 2026, describes a meal-planning service with personalized menus, grocery lists, recommendations, subscriptions, and recipe features. Those functions identify a different use of the Delicious name; the policy does not describe it as a successor to del.icio.us.
