Narrated by Ryan Reynolds, it trades some of the reverence of traditional wildlife documentaries for comic genre setups and bodily humor—while still telling natural-history stories.
What is Underdogs about?
The series focuses on creatures that may be overlooked, odd, or easy to dismiss, then shows how their unusual abilities and behaviors help them survive. Its five episodes organize animal stories around familiar entertainment formats: superhero feats, parenting advice, romance, a heist, and gross-out spectacle. The humor is irreverent, but the subject is real animal behavior.
Co-creator Mark Linfield told Ars Technica that the filmmakers had collected stories about creatures that “don’t end up in the script because they’re not big or sexy and they live under a rock.” The series puts those less conventionally charismatic animals at the center.
Who narrates it, and what is its tone?
Ryan Reynolds narrates. The show pairs natural-history explanation with jokes and bodily humor, using genre conventions rather than a strictly solemn documentary voice. Ars Technica’s June 15, 2025 feature describes formats including superhero stories, romance advice, parenting guides, and heists.
