What happens to the New York Ripper file in the finale?
Dexter is trapped in Prater’s vault with Batista’s body and searches through Prater’s files for a way out. Harrison helps him escape the immediate danger. Together, they turn Prater’s scheme against him, and Prater dies. Dexter leaves with selected files.

When police open the vault, they discover Batista’s body, Prater’s trophies and the file on the New York Ripper. That discovery sets up a new question for the story; it does not answer it. TVLine’s recap says the Ripper’s identity “remains a mystery… for now” (TVLine, September 5, 2025).
Who is Brian Cox playing?
Paramount+ announced in April 2026 that Brian Cox would join Season 2 as the New York Ripper. Paramount Television Studios’ press release also identifies his role as the Ripper (Paramount Television Studios, April 8, 2026; Paramount+, April 27, 2026).

This is casting information, not confirmation that the Season 1 finale revealed the character’s identity. The cited official announcements call the role “the New York Ripper” and do not give the character a civilian name. Until an authoritative source supplies one, that is the accurate name to use.
Was the New York Ripper Jonah Mitchell?
Jonah Mitchell is a fan-theory question, not an identity confirmed by the finale. The cited recap and official casting announcements do not establish Jonah as the Ripper, nor do they verify competing identities. Treat claims that the finale confirmed a particular suspect as speculation, not plot fact.

Where does Season 1 leave the story?
Dexter and Harrison survive the confrontation with Prater, while police discover Batista’s death in the vault. The Ripper file gives investigators and viewers a lead to follow, but the finale leaves the killer’s identity unresolved.
Paramount+’s April 27, 2026 guide says all ten Season 1 episodes are streaming for Premium plan subscribers. At the time that guide was published, it listed the Season 2 premiere date as not announced. Availability and release information can change; check the service’s current listing for your region.
