Spoiler note: This review covers Episode 3 only. Dandadan Episode 3 turns Momo’s grandmother Seiko from a family connection into the person who rescues Okarun, lays out a possible way to break Turbo Granny’s curse, and prepares the pair for what comes next. The episode’s “granny vs. granny” premise is not just a joke in the title: it sets up the next supernatural confrontation.
What happens in Dandadan Episode 3?
After Turbo Granny’s curse transforms Okarun, he struggles to control the power it gives him. Seiko Ayase, Momo’s grandmother and a psychic, intervenes at the last moment and saves him. That rescue shifts the story from an immediate crisis toward a plan: Momo and Okarun are told that a game of tag with Turbo Granny may break the curse.

Seiko orders the two to undergo special training before that confrontation. During the training, Turbo Granny appears before Momo, bringing the episode’s setup for the coming clash into the present. These events follow the official episode synopsis; they form the episode’s central progression from danger, to intervention, to preparation.
Why does Seiko stand out in the episode?
Seiko does more than explain who she is or react to Momo’s predicament. She acts when Okarun is in danger, points the teenagers toward a possible solution, and directs their preparation. That combination makes her the episode’s practical center: she helps turn a frightening, uncontrolled curse into a problem the characters can attempt to face.
#1 Best Overall
The episode’s title also gives her role a playful frame. The official Japanese title is “ババアとババアが激突じゃんか.” Netflix localizes it as “It’s a Granny vs. Granny Clash!”; ORICON’s October 15, 2024 preview used the tentative translation “Ain’t It a Granny Showdown?!” These are different renderings, so Netflix’s wording is best understood as its platform title rather than the only English translation.
How does Episode 3 fit Dandadan?
Dandadan follows two high-school students whose beliefs about the supernatural put them at odds: one believes in ghosts but doubts aliens, while the other is interested in the occult but doubts ghosts. Their bet to prove whether ghosts or aliens exist provides the series’ starting point. Episode 3 draws the focus to the consequences of Okarun’s encounter with Turbo Granny and to the characters’ next steps, without resolving the curse in this installment.
Rank #2
The anime adapts Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga, serialized on Shonen Jump+ since April 2021. ORICON reported in October 2024 that the manga had surpassed 3.2 million copies in circulation; that is a dated figure, not a verified current total. Readers interested in the source story can explore the original Dandadan manga.
