The report connects the claim to the stress and exhaustion she experienced after becoming famous as Rey, but it does not name a medical diagnosis or provide medical documentation. The phrase should therefore be understood as Inverse’s description of Ridley’s experience, not as a confirmed diagnosis of ulcers or perforations.
What the report says
In an interview published by Inverse on January 25, 2024, and updated February 20, 2024, Ridley reflected on the sudden change in her life after she was cast in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Inverse says the strain and exhaustion that followed culminated, by the 2017 release of The Last Jedi, in what it describes as “holes in her stomach wall.” The stomach-wall wording appears in the article’s narration; it is not presented there as a direct quotation from Ridley.
Inverse does not identify the condition behind that phrase, explain it medically, or cite clinical records. A January 30, 2024, Fox News summary repeats the claim but likewise does not establish what condition it describes. Neither account is a basis for calling it an ulcer, a perforation, or another specific diagnosis. Read the Inverse interview; see Fox News’ summary.
How Ridley described the pressure
Ridley said she initially regarded her coping as fine, even as the experience felt different to people around her: “I’m good. I’m good. I’m coping fine. Everything’s fine.” She also described the tension between her own identity and the image others projected onto her: “It’s quite this wrestle of the reality and the fantasy that’s often projected onto you.” Both quotations are from her Inverse interview.

The context is a rapid shift from being cast as Rey to living with the attention and expectations attached to a major franchise. Inverse places the reported stomach-wall problem amid the stress and exhaustion after The Force Awakens, rather than offering a clinical account of how anxiety affected her body.
The reported timeline
- After the casting: Ridley became the face of Rey in The Force Awakens, bringing sudden public attention, according to Inverse.
- After The Force Awakens: Inverse describes stress and exhaustion in the period that followed.
- By 2017: Inverse says she had developed “holes in her stomach wall” by the time The Last Jedi opened; it gives no specific diagnosis.
- Before the final film: Inverse reports that Ridley spent six months at home in London before filming The Rise of Skywalker.
- After the final film: Reflecting on lockdown and the aftermath, she said, “I realized there was a lot that I hadn’t processed properly.”
What is and is not established
The reporting establishes that Inverse used the stomach-wall wording and placed it in the timeline of Ridley’s early Star Wars years. It also offers Ridley’s own comments about coping, public projection, and later recognizing unprocessed emotions. It does not establish a medical diagnosis, the precise nature of the reported damage, or a medically documented cause. Fox News’ repetition of the claim does not fill those gaps.

Keeping that distinction clear matters: an interview account can convey a person’s experience without supplying the clinical detail needed to interpret a phrase literally. The most accurate description is that Inverse reported Ridley developed “holes in her stomach wall” amid anxiety-related stress; the available coverage does not confirm what condition that phrase refers to.
