Samantha Jade opened her 2024 Dancing With the Stars campaign with a Quickstep alongside professional partner Gustavo Viglio, earning 31 points on 14 July. It was the highest score among the six celebrities making their debut in that episode. Jade was already known for singing and acting, but she described ballroom technique—and performing without a microphone—as a new challenge.

Why was Jade’s debut a challenge?
Jade told WHO before the episode that she had previously hesitated to take part, but chose to test herself: “And this year, I don’t know, I was kind of like, ‘I’m up for the challenge.’” She also described the unfamiliarity of dancing without the microphone she usually holds while performing: “I found it really hard once I didn’t have a microphone in my hand, I didn’t know what to do with my arms.” Those comments frame the performance as a new discipline for her, rather than an extension of her stage choreography. WHO’s 14 July 2024 interview contains her reflections.
Ballroom technique versus stage movement
In a pre-season interview with The West Australian, Jade said the technique was different from the dancing she did in her shows, where she could “always jump out when I want to.” She said she preferred ballroom to Latin in rehearsals and described learning the cha-cha as “one of the hardest things” she had done. The West Australian interview gives that context for the work behind the debut.

When did Samantha Jade join the 2024 season?
Jade did not dance in the premiere. The Seven-sourced season recap says the show premiered on Channel 7 and 7plus on 7 July 2024, with 12 celebrities divided into two alternating groups; Jade was in the group scheduled for the following Sunday. TV Central’s recap of the announcement describes the schedule. Her Quickstep was therefore her first performance of the season, not a week-one result.

Jade and Viglio advanced to the finale, where Jade finished behind winner Lisa McCune. Across their two finale routines, McCune scored 79 points and Jade scored 76. The finale report says Jade and Viglio opened with a freestyle set to Jade’s cover of Christina Aguilera’s “Show Me How to Burlesque.” The 31 points from the July Quickstep were a single-episode score, not her final season tally. PerthNow’s 12 August 2024 finale report records the result.
