The press preview’s opening is reported as exposition-heavy but punctuated by violent action, irreverent jokes and quieter explanatory scenes. This is a broad description of that preview—not a scene-by-scene plot or a summary of the later sizzle reel.
What the first 40 minutes establish
In a July 18, 2024 report, Germain Lussier described the opening as carrying a lot of setup: the movie needs to orient viewers to Deadpool’s first Marvel Cinematic Universe film while reconnecting with the events of Deadpool 2, the ending of Logan and the Fox X-Men continuity. It also introduces the multiverse stakes. Lussier said those strands are largely in place by about the end of the 40-minute preview, without presenting a full sequence-by-sequence account. The Time Variance Authority is part of that opening. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said the TVA is a new place for Deadpool, and that viewers encounter it through Deadpool’s perspective. That point of view makes the character a guide into an organization unfamiliar to him as well as to the audience. What the preview feels like
Lussier’s account describes a mix of violent action, a large crowd-pleasing montage, fourth-wall breaks and deep-cut Marvel jokes. Quieter conversations provide some of the necessary exposition, but he found that they could interrupt the momentum. His overall impression was that the opening was entertaining while also somewhat confusing and clunky; he cautioned that the first third alone is not enough to judge the finished film.

Jacob Goldberg’s separate attendee account also notes bloody, grotesque action, self-deprecating humor about the corporate context, emotional grounding and references to the franchise’s history. Goldberg felt the story could be enjoyed without extensive MCU knowledge. That is one attendee’s impression of accessibility, rather than evidence of how all viewers will follow the film. The preview coverage says the screening was followed by a brief sizzle reel of later material, including additional cameos and high-stakes showdowns. Those glimpses were separate from the 40-minute opening. The report does not provide a complete account of the reel, and its later-film teases should not be treated as events within the preview section.

For a spoiler-light sense of the opening, the useful expectation is a dense setup balanced with action and comedy, not a comprehensive plot outline. The two attendee accounts offer different but compatible impressions: the first emphasizes how much continuity and multiverse information the opening must explain, while the second found the story approachable without extensive MCU preparation.
