The Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn-bucket story unfolded in two stages: Kevin Feige teased an “intentionally crude and lewd” design at CinemaCon on April 11, 2024, and Ryan Reynolds revealed the Wolverine-head container on May 30. The AMC-associated design had an open mouth and textured tongue, riffing on the viral sandworm bucket for Dune: Part Two. Several theater chains also sold different movie-themed containers and collectibles in 2024; those launch-era prices do not establish what is available now.
What happened: the tease came before the reveal
Feige announced the idea at CinemaCon
At CinemaCon on April 11, 2024, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said Deadpool & Wolverine would get an “intentionally crude and lewd” popcorn bucket. ComicBook.com reported the announcement as a response to the attention surrounding AMC’s Dune: Part Two sandworm bucket. ComicBook.com’s report attributed the wording to Feige’s announcement, relayed by Brandon Davis.
Reynolds revealed the Wolverine head
On May 30, Ryan Reynolds showed the AMC-associated design in a promotional spot. It was shaped like Wolverine’s head, with an open mouth and textured tongue; the gag invited viewers to reach into the character’s mouth for popcorn. The container carried the words “Designed by Deadpool.” ABC Audio described the reveal and attributed the “War of the Popcorn Buckets” line to Reynolds. ABC Audio’s report covered the reveal.
The Dune comparison is about the viral AMC sandworm design and the attention it generated—not a claim that every Deadpool & Wolverine collectible copied that shape. The Wolverine-mouth bucket was one design among a wider range of film merchandise.

Why a popcorn bucket became a collectible
TIME placed novelty buckets within theaters’ broader collectible-concession strategy. It reported that AMC’s collectible concession-vessel revenue rose from $0 in 2018 to $54 million in 2023; those figures cover the category, not the Deadpool & Wolverine bucket. TIME also cited a $300 eBay resale example for Dune buckets in 2024, which is neither a verified current resale price nor a price for the Wolverine design. Its cited $32.4 billion 2023 valuation from Market Decipher refers to the general collectibles market, not popcorn buckets. TIME’s coverage of collectible movie-theater vessels discussed the commercial strategy alongside fan interest and criticism of the AMC design’s practical usability.
TIME quoted AMC executive Bennett saying, “We rank coolness over functionality kind of all the time.” The article described the aim as creating a fan souvenir and said Bennett added that many customers take the vessels home still wrapped. Bennett also said, “Our goal is to sell out Sunday afternoon,” describing sales planning for novelty buckets—not confirming that this particular design sold out.

Can you buy the Wolverine popcorn bucket now?
The cited listings and prices are from 2024, so they do not confirm current theater inventory or a live resale listing. The available reporting also does not verify an Amazon listing for the exact licensed item. If checking a marketplace, match the Wolverine-head design carefully and verify the licensing description, seller, condition and live listing before purchasing; broader resale reporting about movie buckets is not proof that this specific one is currently for sale.
