Dandadan episode 2 makes Okarun’s curse more than a strange new condition: it forces him into a crisis where he has to rely on Momo and decide how to act alongside her. The episode’s central character question is whether that involuntary change can become the beginning of trust and agency.
Episode 2 at a glance
The episode is titled “That’s a Space Alien, Ain’t It?!” in Apple TV’s US listing; the Japanese official title is 「それって宇宙人じゃね」. Apple lists a 22-minute runtime and a TV-MA rating for the US listing, metadata that describes the listing rather than the episode’s popularity or reception. Apple TV
Ken Takakura is the boy Momo nicknames Okarun, and Okarun is the name used for him in the episode’s official synopsis. After the events that leave him cursed by Turbo Granny, Momo uses newly awakened powers to restrain his rampage. Once day breaks, they take temporary shelter at her home. How does Okarun change in episode 2?
Okarun’s transformation is frightening before it is empowering. The curse is imposed on him, and the synopsis describes a rampage Momo has to restrain; this is not a clean, chosen upgrade that immediately gives him control. That distinction gives the episode’s character arc its useful tension: his altered state exposes his vulnerability before it can become a source of agency.

Momo’s intervention makes their relationship part of the conflict rather than a separate subplot. Okarun cannot simply handle the danger alone, and Momo’s ability to contain the curse creates a practical dependence between them. The character question is not just what Okarun has become, but whether he can respond to that dependence with trust and action.

At Momo’s home, removing a talisman from a torii shrine is followed by the appearance of a giant Flatwoods Monster. The official synopsis places Okarun’s proposal to Momo at the moment of greatest danger, but does not disclose its contents. The official episode synopsis
That proposal is a meaningful pivot in the episode outline: Okarun is no longer only the person whose condition needs to be managed. He makes a move toward Momo while they are under threat. Read as a character beat, it suggests an emerging willingness to participate in their shared predicament. The synopsis supports that interpretation as a possibility, not as proof of what the scene feels like or of any declared authorial intent.

Does the monster threat serve the character story?
The Flatwoods Monster gives the episode an external danger that can intensify the bond forming between Okarun and Momo. The premise sets up a productive critical test: does the threat leave room for their cooperation and Okarun’s changing role, or does the spectacle crowd those elements out? The available plot outline establishes the setup, not how the episode balances it on screen.
For the same reason, a review based only on the established synopsis cannot responsibly judge animation, editing, voice acting, pacing, or the scene-by-scene force of the crisis. Those are matters of execution, distinct from the character arc suggested by the plot. The firm basis for the “transformational journey” reading is narrower: Okarun is cursed, Momo restrains him, the pair face danger together, and he makes a proposal at a critical moment.
