Dave Bautista rejected Donald Trump’s “tough guy” image in a pre-recorded comedy segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that aired Oct. 16, 2024. Addressing men who see Trump as tough, Bautista said, “He’s not.”
What did Dave Bautista say about Trump being tough?
In the segment, actor and former professional wrestler Dave Bautista addressed men who regard Trump as a tough guy. “A lot of men seem to think that Donald Trump is some kind of tough guy,” Bautista said, according to The Daily Beast’s Oct. 17, 2024, account. He answered the premise with a blunt “He’s not.”
Bautista followed with insults and jokes, including calling Trump “whiny.” The Daily Beast reported that the bit ran for two minutes and ended with Bautista describing Trump as a “weak, tubby toddler.” These were lines in a political-comedy attack, not neutral or independently established assessments of Trump’s character.
How the segment framed the joke
Host Jimmy Kimmel introduced the clip by questioning whether Trump embodied the strong, alpha-male image some male voters saw in him, then presented Bautista as a tough person. The pre-recorded video showed Bautista sparring and exercising in a gym as he challenged that image.

The workout footage was comic framing for Bautista’s argument; it does not substantiate the insults or claims made about Trump. Fox News’s Oct. 18, 2024, account also described the piece as a parody ad and reproduced additional remarks. The outlets’ transcriptions vary, so the short quotation above follows The Daily Beast’s printed version.
How Trump’s campaign responded
Fox News reported that Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung responded by calling Bautista a “stone-cold loser” and criticizing his WWE career. That response was attributed to Cheung, not to Trump personally.
