Crystal Lake is an eight-episode prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, centered on Pam Voorhees after her son Jason’s drowning. Peacock’s first-look release includes a trailer and cast photos, and the series is scheduled to premiere in the United States on October 15, 2026, with all eight episodes released at once.
What is Crystal Lake about?
The prequel follows Pam Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini, in the aftermath of Jason’s drowning at Camp Crystal Lake. Peacock’s September 14, 2026 first-look announcement describes Pam’s life and the town’s sense of safety as unsettled by the tragedy. Its trailer uses the camp setting and Blue Öyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” to evoke the period atmosphere of the original franchise.

NBCUniversal’s October 5, 2026 series description adds a mystery: two strangers arrive at Pam’s home to investigate her past, prompting residents to question who she is. The story is presented as a reimagining of the first Friday the 13th film through Pam’s perspective, rather than as a retelling focused only on Jason.

Peacock reports that creator Brad Caleb Kane draws on the paranoid thriller era of the 1970s, mistrust of institutions, and women’s liberation themes. Kane described the approach as: “It came out of the paranoid ’70s thriller era.” He has also said the series was made by franchise fans, with the aim of recreating for home audiences the communal suspense he remembers from seeing the films in theaters.
