Disney has named the new Animal Kingdom attraction Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. It is planned for the Tropical Americas land, which is replacing DinoLand U.S.A. Disney has announced 2027 as the land’s opening year, but has not announced a separate opening date for the ride.
What is the new Indiana Jones ride called?
Disney’s August 2026 D23 announcement gave the attraction its official name: Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. Disney places it in Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney Parks Blog’s D23 announcement introduced the project in 2024; the 2026 announcement added the title and story details.
What is the ride’s story?
Disney says Indiana Jones explores a dry cenote inside a Maya temple. Local folklore tells of a passage to the underworld guarded by Tsukán, a mythical serpent. The announcement describes Tsukán as a massive, hand-sculpted Audio-Animatronics figure. Disney also says the Indiana Jones figures will be modeled from Harrison Ford, calling this a first for a Disney attraction anywhere in the world.
What is it replacing, and when did DINOSAUR close?
The ride is part of Tropical Americas, the planned replacement destination for DinoLand U.S.A. Disney announced that DinoLand would permanently close on February 2, 2026, making February 1 the final day to experience DINOSAUR. The attraction is therefore following DINOSAUR as the area changes over; the official material does not establish that the new ride is a direct retheme of DINOSAUR.

When will the new Indiana Jones ride open?
Disney has announced 2027 as the opening year for Tropical Americas. Its reviewed official announcements do not give Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent a specific opening day or season. The 2027 target applies to the land, so it should not be treated as a confirmed ride-specific date.
Is it the same ride system or in the same footprint as DINOSAUR?
Disney’s announcements do not confirm that the Indiana Jones attraction will use DINOSAUR’s exact ride system or occupy its precise footprint. Without that confirmation, describing it as a simple retheme—or asserting that its ride mechanics will be the same—goes beyond what Disney has announced.

What else is planned for Tropical Americas?
Disney’s 2024 announcement described Tropical Americas as an 11-acre land, with an Encanto attraction and a wood-carved carousel in addition to Indiana Jones. In its August 2026 materials, Disney named those attractions Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto and El Carrusel de los Animalitos. The land’s announced scope gives context for the wider DinoLand transition, but those details are separate from the Indiana Jones ride’s story and opening date.
