Curve model Kate Kope says a fellow passenger told her, “Oh, don’t worry, you’re not that fat,” after learning Kope was a curve model. In a June 22, 2025, PEOPLE exclusive republished by AOL, Kope described the exchange on a flight to Los Angeles and reflected on how people respond to labels such as “curve” and “plus.”
What did the passenger say?
According to the PEOPLE report, Kope, a 27-year-old curve model from Brooklyn, was seated near an older woman on a flight to Los Angeles. The woman saw a photo of Kope in lingerie and learned she was a curve model. Kope recalled the passenger saying: “She goes, ‘Oh, don’t worry, you’re not that fat,’”
Kope had also described the encounter in a TikTok post. PEOPLE reported that the post had over 300,000 views as of writing in 2025; that is a dated figure, not a current view count.
How did Kope react?
Kope told PEOPLE she “was not shocked,” saying she was used to people not knowing what to say when she identified herself as a curve model. She said she did not believe the passenger meant to be malicious and described her own response as: “I truly let it roll off my back.” The report recounts Kope’s perspective; it does not include the passenger’s account.

What did Kope say about curve and plus-size labels?
Kope said describing herself as a model, a curve model, or a plus-size model could each prompt uncomfortable reactions. She described herself as a “true 10,” with her size fluctuating from 8 to 14, and said clothing samples for curve models ranged from 12 to 16. These are Kope’s figures as reported in 2025, not universal sizing definitions or current measurements.
Why did she connect the incident to representation?
Kope said she had noticed what she called a “regression” in accessible modeling jobs for models like herself. She also said friends who wear size 16 and above were struggling to find their place in the industry. Those comments reflect her observations in the interview; the report does not provide independent casting data to establish an industry-wide trend.

The report is based on Kope’s account of a conversation with a fellow passenger. It does not name the passenger, give the exact date or flight details, or include the passenger’s response. The incident and Kope’s related comments were reported by PEOPLE on June 22, 2025; the wider claims about modeling opportunities and brand casting are not independently substantiated in that report.
