Crown Perth was AC Milan’s event-week gathering point—not the venue for its match against AS Roma. The friendly was played at Optus Stadium on Friday, 31 May 2024, while AC Milan’s pre-match party took place at The Merrywell at Crown Perth.
What “home ground” meant in this event announcement
The headline’s “home ground” wording referred to AC Milan’s temporary Perth base for fan activity around the match. It did not mean the club changed its home stadium, and Crown Perth was not where the game was played. The Western Australian Government described separate pre-match events for AC Milan and AS Roma, followed by a march to Optus Stadium.
Where and when the match and events took place
AC Milan–AS Roma friendly
AC Milan announced on 6 March 2024 that its first men’s team would travel to Perth for a friendly against AS Roma on Friday, 31 May 2024. The match took place at Optus Stadium in Burswood. The club described the stadium as able to accommodate up to 65,000 spectators; that was a capacity figure, not the match attendance. AC Milan’s match announcement called it the first meeting between two Serie A teams on Australian soil.
Pre-match gatherings
The Government of Western Australia said AC Milan’s pre-match event would be at The Merrywell at Crown Perth, while AS Roma’s event would be at The Royal in East Perth. The clubs were then expected to march to Optus Stadium. The government announcement established the distinction between the clubs’ gathering places and the match venue.

The Italian Consulate’s program, published on 20 May 2024, listed the AC Milan pre-match party at The Merrywell for 1 p.m. It also listed a 1 p.m. AS Roma event at The Royal on the Waterfront in East Perth. These were event-day details for the completed 2024 fixture, not current schedules or operating information. The Consulate’s event program listed food trucks, pop-up bars, Italian street food, children’s activities, DJs and official team merchandise among the planned fan offerings.
Getting to AC Milan’s gathering
For the historical event, the Consulate said visitors could reach the Crown Perth site via the Armadale line to Burswood station, which it described as less than one kilometre from the venue. This reflects the program’s 2024 guidance; it should not be treated as current public-transport advice.

What the available announcements do not establish
The event announcements confirm AC Milan’s fan-event location at Crown Perth, but do not establish where players stayed. They also do not provide a confirmed final attendance figure. Because the match and its associated events took place in 2024, the historical schedule and broadcast details should not be read as evidence that tickets, event activities or streaming access are available now.
