Cristiano Ronaldo’s connection to UFL began as an investment and development partnership, not as an in-game promotion. In December 2023, UFL’s developer announced that Ronaldo had joined an investor group committing more than $40 million to the game and would help shape its development. A separate Ronaldo-themed Team Pass was announced for February 2025. UFL is presented by its publisher as a free-to-play football game.
What was Cristiano Ronaldo’s deal with UFL?
Strikerz Inc. announced on December 12, 2023, that Ronaldo had become an investor in UFL. The company said he was part of a group that had committed more than $40 million to developing the game and that he would help shape its development and support its effort to engage football fans. These are claims from the company announcement distributed by Business Wire; the release does not establish that Ronaldo personally invested the full amount.
Ronaldo said, “I’m thrilled to be a part of this project as UFL can become the new breed in football gaming.” CEO Eugene Nashilov described the partnership as an endorsement of the company’s vision. The announcement framed UFL as free to play, with regular feature updates and no mandatory payments or yearly fees, and used the phrases “skill-first” and “zero pay-to-win.” Those are the developer’s stated intentions, not an independent assessment of the game’s monetization or competitive balance.
How the investment differs from the Ronaldo Team Pass
| Aspect | Investment and development partnership | Ronaldo Team Pass |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Ronaldo joined an investor group and was expected to help shape UFL’s development, according to the December 2023 company announcement. | A time-limited in-game promotion with Ronaldo-themed rewards, described in January 2025 coverage. |
| Timing | Announced December 12, 2023. | Announced to start February 1, 2025, at 00:00 UTC and run for two months. |
| What players received | The announcement did not establish a player entitlement or in-game reward tied to the investment. | Free rewards and an optional paid upgrade, including themed digital items and a chance to earn a Ronaldo player card. |
What was in the 2025 Ronaldo Team Pass?
VentureBeat reported on January 31, 2025, that the Team Pass would have eight stages inspired by milestones in Ronaldo’s career. Its described rewards included emblems, kits, boots, balls and an opportunity to earn a Ronaldo player card. The pass had a free reward track and an optional paid upgrade, making it a separate game promotion rather than part of the 2023 investment arrangement. VentureBeat’s January 2025 report said the items would not be reintroduced after the pass ended. That was contemporaneous reporting; the current official pages reviewed do not establish whether the pass or its items later returned, so the old promotion should not be treated as currently available.

Is UFL free to play, and where can you play it?
UFL’s official homepage describes it as a free-to-play football game and lists PlayStation, Xbox and PC. The site presents the game around building a squad and competing with players worldwide. The official mobile notice, dated May 22, 2026, describes UFL Mobile as entering “Mobile Soft Launch Stage 2: Global Access” on iOS and Android, with a full global launch planned for later in 2026. A soft-launch notice and a future plan are not confirmation that the full launch has happened.
The same mobile announcement says UFL first launched in December 2024 and had attracted more than 7 million players since then. Those are publisher-reported figures, not independently audited numbers. For more on the game’s modes and systems, UFL’s about page lists online PvP, PvE and couch co-op, alongside player cards, squad management, challenges and recurring events.
