If Peacock’s menus appear but the video is black, the failure is usually somewhere in playback: the app or browser may be stuck, the device may need an update, or the connection or display path may be interrupting the stream. First check whether the whole TV is black, whether audio plays, and whether another title works; those answers point to the right fix and help avoid unnecessary resets or purchases.
First identify which kind of black screen you have
| What you see | Best next test | What it suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Peacock menus appear, but every video is black | Try another title, then close and reopen Peacock | App or playback-state issue |
| Audio plays but the picture is black | Restart playback; then try another browser, display, or the TV’s native Peacock app | Video rendering, compatibility, or external-display path |
| The screen goes black after an advertisement | Try another title and relaunch Peacock | Ad-to-program handoff or a temporary playback issue |
| The whole TV is black, including menus or other apps | Press Home or Input and test another source | TV, input, HDMI, receiver, or streaming-device issue |
| Only one episode, movie, or event fails | Try another episode or a different title | Title-specific or service-side issue |
| Peacock fails on every device | Test another network, if practical, and contact Peacock | Network, account, or service-side issue |
If the black picture is limited to Peacock’s video area, follow the playback steps below. If the TV itself has no picture, check its input and other sources before changing Peacock settings.
Try these Peacock fixes in order
1. Test another title
Try another episode of the same program, then a different show or movie. If available, test a short clip or live event too. When only one title fails, note its name, episode or event, device, and approximate time; there is little reason to reset the router or reinstall the app until you know whether other playback works.
2. Fully close and reopen Peacock
- Exit the video.
- Close the Peacock app completely—not just by returning to the device’s home screen.
- Reopen Peacock and test the affected title and a different one.
Peacock lists closing and reopening the app as a first-line step for a black screen or playback error. Peacock’s black-screen troubleshooting guide

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Fully restart the device
Power down the TV, streaming stick, console, phone, tablet, or computer, or unplug it. Wait 20 seconds, then reconnect or turn it on. Standby may not fully restart some TVs and streaming devices. Open Peacock again and check playback. Peacock specifies a 20-second wait in its troubleshooting instructions. Peacock’s black-screen troubleshooting guide
4. Check the connection
A video stream can fail even if Peacock’s menus load. Run a speed test near the affected device, pause large downloads or cloud backups, and temporarily reduce other network use. If available, test with Ethernet or another Wi-Fi band. Restart the modem or router if other streaming services are also struggling. A phone hotspot can help determine whether the home network is involved, but mobile-data charges may apply.
Peacock recommends at least 3 Mbps for general streaming and at least 8 Mbps for certain high-quality live events and Ultra HD premium content. These are recommendations, not guarantees: interference, congestion, latency, packet loss, or router problems can still disrupt video. Peacock’s guidance on slow loading and buffering

5. Update Peacock and its playback environment
Install available updates for the Peacock app and your device’s operating system or firmware. On a computer, update the browser. Menu names differ by device, so use the manufacturer’s current instructions rather than assuming one settings path applies to every TV or streaming stick.

6. Clear cache, then consider clearing data
In the device’s app settings, clear Peacock’s cache if that option is available. Cache clearing is generally less disruptive than clearing app data. Clearing data may sign you out and remove local settings, so check that you can sign back in first. Peacock recommends clearing cache and data as device troubleshooting steps; doing so is an attempt to resolve playback, not proof that stored data caused the failure. Peacock device troubleshooting
7. Reinstall Peacock if the earlier steps fail
Before uninstalling, confirm that you know the account’s sign-in details and how access is provided if Peacock is part of a third-party bundle. Remove the app, then reinstall it from the device’s official app store. Peacock includes reinstalling among its black-screen remedies. Peacock’s black-screen troubleshooting guide

If you watch Peacock in a browser
Peacock’s supported-browser list, checked August 18, 2026, specifies Chrome 125 or later, Firefox 127 or later, Microsoft Edge 125 or later, and Safari 17.3 or later on Mac. Browser and device requirements can change, so check Peacock’s current compatibility list if yours is older. Peacock’s supported devices and platforms
- Update the browser, then test Peacock in a private or incognito window. If playback works there, an extension or stored site data may be involved.
- Try another supported browser. Temporarily disable ad-blocking, privacy, script-blocking, or video-enhancement extensions for Peacock.
- Clear Peacock’s site data or cookies, then sign in again.
- If the problem happens only on an external monitor, disconnect extra monitors or docks and test on the computer’s built-in display.
If the black video appears only when connected to a TV or monitor, a protected-video or display-handshake problem is one possible explanation; Peacock’s cited black-screen guidance does not confirm it as a general cause. Test with a direct connection and without a dock, splitter, receiver, or capture device. Avoid treating the HDMI/DRM explanation as certain unless the issue is limited to that display setup.

If Peacock’s menus work on the TV but video does not, restart the app and device, update both, then clear cache or reinstall if needed. If no TV menus or other apps show a picture, troubleshoot the signal path instead:
- Press the TV’s Home or Input button and select the correct source.
- Reseat both ends of the HDMI cable and try another HDMI port.
- Temporarily remove an AV receiver, soundbar, splitter, or other equipment between the streaming device and TV.
- Test an existing spare cable or connect the streaming device to another TV or monitor, if available.
Do not buy a cable or streaming device before testing the existing ports and display path. If the current TV model is unsupported or obsolete, a compatible streaming device may be an option—but it will not fix a Peacock outage, an account issue, or a weak network.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When audio works but video does not
Audio without a picture narrows the problem to video rendering or the display path; it does not establish a single cause. Restart the app or browser and try another title. On a computer, compare a supported browser on the built-in screen with the same playback on an external display. On a TV, use its native Peacock app or a supported streaming device if available. If video works on one display but not another, simplify the connection by removing intermediate equipment and testing another port. If the picture remains black on the device’s own screen as well, continue with the app, update, and network steps above.

Check for network, account, or service-side problems
If several titles fail, compare Peacock on another device. If possible, try a different network, such as a phone hotspot. A result that changes between networks points toward a local connection, filtering, or routing issue; VPNs, proxies, DNS filters, and corporate networks can also interfere, so temporarily disabling them can be a useful diagnostic test. This is not a universal fix.
If Peacock fails across devices while other streaming apps work, a Peacock-side issue is possible. That alone does not confirm an outage, and this article cannot establish whether one is happening now. Check Peacock’s official Help Center or support channels before factory-resetting a device or changing a subscription.
If an error says you have reached the simultaneous-stream limit, Peacock allows up to three concurrent streams. A session left active after a browser or computer crash may remain counted temporarily; Peacock says to wait 10 minutes after reaching the limit. Peacock’s simultaneous-stream limit guidance
