Change your Netflix plan from the Change Plan page in a web browser. With standard direct Netflix billing, an upgrade starts immediately, while a downgrade takes effect on your next billing date. Apple and partner-billed accounts can follow different rules.
Change your Netflix plan in a browser
Netflix’s standard instructions use a browser-based plan-change page. If you do not see the control in the Netflix app or on your TV, try a browser on a phone, tablet, or computer. You can also look for plan management in the account area; the available controls depend on how your subscription is billed.

- Open Netflix’s Change Plan page and sign in if prompted.
- Select the plan you want.
- Choose Continue or Update, depending on the screen.
- Review the change, then choose Confirm Change or Confirm.
- Open your account’s Payment History to check the membership and billing details.
Button wording and navigation can vary by interface, country, language, and account status. Netflix’s getting-started guidance also directs members to manage plan changes through the account area.
When does a plan change take effect?
For standard direct Netflix billing, an upgrade takes effect immediately. A downgrade is scheduled for the next billing date, so the existing plan’s features remain available until then. Netflix may offer different plan names and features by country; check the choices shown on your account rather than assuming a particular lineup or price.

These are Netflix’s standard direct-billing rules. Apple billing and partner packages have distinct terms.
Check your plan, charges, and billing date
- Open your Netflix account page.
- Go to Payment History.
- Review the plan, recent charges, and billing date shown. Taxes may appear depending on location.
- After changing plans, check whether the new plan is active or scheduled for the next billing date.
Netflix says a displayed billing date can appear a day earlier or later because of time-zone differences. If your usual billing day does not occur in a month—for example, the 31st—Netflix bills on that month’s last day. See Netflix’s billing-date guidance and its Payment History and billing information.

Why is the Change Plan option missing?
Netflix identifies several situations that can prevent a standard plan change: the account is on hold or paused, a Kids profile is active, or a partner handles billing. An account-specific payment or eligibility problem may also need attention.
- Switch from the Kids profile to the primary or another adult profile.
- Reopen the Change Plan page in a browser.
- Check Membership & Billing in your account to see who bills you.
- If Netflix shows a pause or payment hold, resolve that issue first.
- If a partner bills you, use its account-management route or contact its support team.
- If the option is still unavailable, contact Netflix or the billing partner.

If you pay through Apple
Apple-billed subscriptions do not necessarily follow the standard direct-billing charge pattern. Netflix says an upgrade takes effect immediately; Apple charges the full new-plan amount on the upgrade date and may issue an immediate prorated refund for unused time on the old plan. The billing date changes to the upgrade date. A downgrade starts on the next billing date.
Some older accounts, including certain accounts created through a Netflix gaming app, may need to cancel through Apple and rejoin after the account closes. In some circumstances, members who have stopped using Apple billing must wait until the next billing period before changing plans. If Netflix is included with a cable, mobile, or internet package
A provider may control which Netflix plans are available, when a change takes effect, and how the price appears on your bill. Check Netflix’s account page for eligibility, then use the provider’s instructions for your package. Netflix recommends looking up the specific provider in its Help Center; do not assume one partner’s rules apply to another.
For example, Netflix’s Comcast Xfinity package guidance says package eligibility affects available changes: members cannot choose a plan below the tier included with the package or one the provider does not offer. Eligible changes can take effect immediately, with a price difference applied to a later provider bill; another change may be unavailable for 12 hours. Those details are specific to the Xfinity package guidance, not a rule for every partner.

Will changing plans cancel Netflix or remove your account?
A plan change is not the same as canceling and opening a new account. If you want to keep your existing account setup, change the plan on that account rather than creating another one. Netflix specifically says that linking an existing account to a Netflix package retains preferences, downloads, My List, and related account information; see its cancellation and package guidance.
Do not cancel just to switch plans. Signing out or deleting the Netflix app also does not cancel a membership. If you need to stop the subscription, use Netflix’s cancellation flow or cancel through the billing partner when Netflix does not show a cancellation option.
Changing your billing date is a different process
If your goal is to move the recurring billing date, a plan change will not do that. Netflix says members generally need to cancel, keep watching until the current billing period ends if eligible, and restart on the date they want. Do not use this more disruptive route for a normal upgrade or downgrade; follow Netflix’s billing-date instructions.
Why was I charged twice after changing plans?
More than one Netflix charge in a month can be legitimate after a recent upgrade: one may be the regular payment and another a prorated or adjustment charge. Compare the amounts and dates with Payment History before treating the charges as duplicates. Netflix explains this case in its guidance on being charged twice. If the entries do not match your account history, contact Netflix or the provider that bills you.
