JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar were brought together as JioHotstar, which launched on February 14, 2025. An old app or bookmark may not be the right way to access it now. If JioHotstar also fails, use the checks below to isolate whether the issue is your connection, app, account, device, or the service itself. JioStar announced the launch.
Try these quick fixes first
- Open the current service: Go to hotstar.com/in or install JioHotstar from your device’s official app store. Avoid third-party APK sites.
- Test your internet: Open another website or streaming app, then try the same JioHotstar title on Wi-Fi and mobile data if available.
- Restart the app and device: Force-close JioHotstar, reopen it, and restart your phone, TV, streaming stick, or set-top box.
- Update the app: Use the official app store on your device. Install available device software updates as well.
- Clear the app cache: Use the device-specific steps below. Clear data only if clearing cache does not help; it can sign you out.
- Check your account: Sign in again using the mobile number registered to your Jio account, and check MyJio for the plan and OTT benefit.
- Turn off network filters: Temporarily disable VPNs, proxies, private DNS, or ad-blocking network filters and retry.
- Compare devices and titles: Test another title and, if possible, another device. If the problem follows your account across networks, contact support.
If JioHotstar will not open
An old JioCinema installation, outdated app, damaged app data, low device storage, or an unsupported or modified device can prevent the app from starting. Check the official store for the current JioHotstar app rather than installing an old APK. Rooted or jailbroken devices may also encounter streaming-protection problems.
On a browser, try a current mainstream browser with extensions disabled, or use a private window. If the site works on another device, the issue is more likely with the original device, its browser, or its network settings than with the account.
If video buffers, freezes, or will not start
- Pause large downloads, cloud backups, video calls, or other streaming on the same connection.
- Move closer to the router, restart it, or use a wired connection for a TV when possible.
- Switch to another network. If mobile data works but home Wi-Fi does not, investigate the router or home connection rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app.
- Try a different title. If only a live event fails while other videos play, congestion or an event-specific playback issue may be involved.
- If the app offers playback-quality controls, lower the quality temporarily to see whether playback stabilizes.
Older JioCinema FAQs cite 2 Mbps or above as minimum guidance for basic playback, but that legacy figure is not a guarantee of smooth HD, 4K, or live streaming. Higher resolutions and simultaneous streams need more capacity. See the legacy JioCinema FAQ and legacy TV FAQ.

Clear cache on your device
Menu names vary by device maker and software version. Start with cache; clearing storage or data usually removes local app information and signs you out.
Android phone or tablet
- Open Settings → Apps → JioHotstar → Storage.
- Choose Clear cache, then reopen the app.
- If it still fails, choose Clear storage or Clear data and sign in again.
Android TV or Google TV
- Open Settings → Apps → See all apps → JioHotstar → Storage & cache.
- Select Clear cache. If necessary, select Clear storage and sign in again.
Fire TV
- Open Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → JioHotstar.
- Select Clear cache. If that does not work, choose Clear data and log in again.
iPhone or iPad
iOS does not provide a universal clear-cache button for apps. Force-close JioHotstar, restart the device, and update the app. If needed, delete and reinstall it from the App Store; make sure you can access your account and receive its OTP before doing so.

Samsung or LG smart TV
Restart the TV fully, update its software and JioHotstar app, then clear app data or reinstall if the TV offers those options. If the app is unavailable or unsupported on your model, check the manufacturer’s support information rather than relying on an old JioCinema compatibility list.
Jio set-top box
- On the set-top box, open Home → Settings → Applications → Downloaded Apps.
- Select JioHotstar, then choose Clear Cache. If needed, choose Clear Data and sign in again.
- Restart the set-top box and Jio Home Gateway if the problem continues.

If JioHotstar says your subscription is inactive
First distinguish a missing benefit from a sign-in or entitlement-sync problem. A Jio plan may not include JioHotstar, may include a different tier from the one a title or device needs, or may show an entitlement in MyJio that has not synced to the app. Don’t buy another subscription until you have checked the plan and the exact title or device restriction.
- In MyJio, check My Plan and confirm whether the relevant OTT benefit is active.
- Use the Jio-registered mobile number to sign in to JioHotstar. If your number recently changed, update the registered number in MyJio.
- For bundled Fiber access, open MyJio → Fiber → Subscriptions → Refresh, then sign out and back in to JioHotstar.
- Check whether the issue applies only to a particular tier, device type, title, or content category.
Jio describes the registered-number login and entitlement refresh in its partner-app login guidance. For new subscribers from January 28, 2026, JioStar announced Mobile, Super, and Premium tiers with different device access and content benefits; existing subscribers retain their current plans and prices while auto-renewal remains active. If login or OTP is failing
- Confirm that you are entering the mobile number registered to the relevant Jio, JioFiber, or JioAirFiber account.
- Check that the SIM can receive SMS and wait before requesting another OTP. Repeated requests may not resolve a delivery delay.
- If the registered number changed, update it in MyJio before trying again.
- Turn off VPN or location-spoofing tools, then retry on the web or another device.
- If other SMS messages arrive but JioHotstar OTPs do not, contact support rather than repeatedly signing in and out.
If it works on your phone but not your TV
A phone-versus-TV difference can point to a plan restriction, a different account on the TV, an outdated TV app, stale app data, a device limit, or a TV-specific network or playback issue.
- Check the plan’s device access and confirm the TV is signed in with the same registered number.
- Update the TV app and firmware, then restart the TV by disconnecting power briefly.
- Clear cache or reinstall the app where supported.
- Try the same title on the phone and TV, then try a different title on the TV.
If only one title fails, the issue may be specific to its availability, tier requirement, live-event window, device restriction, or playback stream—not the entire app. Note the title and exact error for support.

Is JioHotstar down, or is the problem local?
There is no basis here to claim a current platform-wide outage. Use these comparisons to narrow it down:
- Other apps and websites also fail: troubleshoot the internet connection or check for a broader Jio service problem.
- JioHotstar works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi, or vice versa: focus on the failing network, which may have weak signal, congestion, a captive portal, router filtering, or DNS issues.
- One device fails but another works: check that device’s app, software, storage, and settings.
- Only one title fails: test another title and note whether the first is a live event or has a particular tier or device requirement.
- The same failure follows your account across devices and networks: check the entitlement and contact support. If it appears service-wide, check official Jio support channels and retry later.
When to contact support
Contact support if the problem persists on multiple devices and networks, a paid or bundled benefit is missing after an entitlement refresh, OTPs do not arrive despite working SMS, payment succeeded but access did not, or the Jio gateway or set-top box has wider connectivity problems.
Use Jio Help, the Jio troubleshooting chat, or the Jio service ticket portal. Include the device and operating system, app version, exact error, affected title or event, time of failure, and whether you tested another network or device. For a payment issue, include the transaction ID. Never share your OTP or password. Older JioCinema support pages list an email address, but they are legacy material and should not be treated as the only current route for JioHotstar support; see the legacy TV FAQ.
