Netflix does not publish a permanent, complete public list of titles blocked on its ad-supported plan. The current US plan is called Standard with ads (the older name was Basic with Ads), and Netflix says some titles are unavailable on it because of licensing restrictions. The quickest way to check a specific title is to search for it in Netflix: a lock icon indicates that it is unavailable on the current plan. A list published in 2022 is useful as a historical reference, not as a verified catalog for October 2026.
What “blocked” means on Netflix
“Blocked” is shorthand for a title Netflix makes unavailable on an ad-supported experience. Netflix attributes these plan-specific restrictions to licensing. A title may still appear in search or in a browsing row even though the current plan cannot play it. Netflix’s ad-plan information and lock-icon guidance describe the restriction.

This is different from a title that is not on Netflix in your country, has left Netflix, or is hidden or restricted by a profile’s maturity settings or PIN. A device or playback problem is another separate issue. Only call a title plan-blocked when Netflix shows a plan restriction, such as the lock icon; a missing search result alone does not establish that.
How to check whether a title is locked
- Open Netflix while signed in to the account on the ad-supported plan you want to check.
- Search for the movie or show, or find it in a Netflix row such as Top 10, My List, or Continue Watching.
- Look for a lock icon in the search result, title page, or browsing row. Netflix says the icon can appear in each of those places.
- If the title is a series, check the specific season or episode you want; availability can differ within a show.
- Record the country and date of the check. If the result is ambiguous, confirm it on another device or browser before treating it as a plan restriction.
A title that does not appear may have left the catalog, be unavailable in that country, be listed under another name, or be hidden by profile settings. Search results and old third-party lists cannot confirm current plan access.

Historical titles reported as unavailable in 2022
The following examples appeared in a launch-era list published by BGR on November 6, 2022. They are historically reported—verify in Netflix, not a statement that they remain locked or even remain in the US Netflix catalog today. Why a title may be unavailable on the ad-supported plan
Netflix says licensing restrictions account for some titles being unavailable on its ad-supported experience. Streaming rights can differ by plan, so a title may be available on an ad-free Netflix plan but not on Standard with ads. Netflix’s public help information does not identify the specific contract or rights-holder behind each individual restriction.

Availability is also country-specific. Netflix says the ad-supported experience is not available in every region, and a title’s catalog status can vary between countries. This article’s historical examples are not a current, verified US list or a global list. Netflix’s regional availability guidance explains the issue for travelers.
Can changing profiles or settings remove the lock?
If the lock is caused by the ad-supported plan, switching profiles does not remove the plan restriction. But a profile PIN or maturity setting can separately prevent access to a title. Check the profile’s restrictions if a title is hidden or asks for a PIN rather than showing a plan-related lock. Netflix notes that Kids profiles may show locks for titles unavailable on the ad-supported plan; an adult profile may be needed to manage the account plan. What changing to an ad-free plan does—and does not do
Netflix says changing to an ad-free plan provides access to the full Netflix catalog available in your country. That does not mean every title ever offered by Netflix is available: titles can be absent because they are not licensed in that country or are no longer in the catalog. If one specific locked title matters, check Netflix’s plan options and the title’s current status before changing plans.

Other limits that are separate from locked titles
- Advertising: Ads run before and during selected shows and movies. Netflix says ads cannot be skipped or fast-forwarded; some newly released movies may have ads only before playback. Netflix describes the ad load as a few short ads per hour, rather than a fixed amount for every title.
- Kids profiles and games: Netflix says ads are not currently shown on Kids profiles or Netflix games.
- Downloads: Netflix currently states a limit of 15 downloads per device per calendar month, across up to two devices, for the ad-supported plan. See Netflix’s download-limit details.
- Device support: A small percentage of devices may not support the ad-supported experience because their app or operating system cannot be updated to support ads. To check in the Netflix app, open the menu, select Get Help, then Plan Compatibility. The menu may appear at the top or on the left, depending on the interface. Netflix’s compatibility guidance has more detail.
- Travel and regions: If you travel to a country where the ad-supported plan is unavailable, Netflix may show an error saying the plan is not available in the current region. Netflix says to return to the plan’s originating country or switch to an ad-free plan. Read the regional error guidance.

If a blocked title is the only reason you are considering another subscription, check the title’s availability through official rental or purchase storefronts before paying for a second monthly service.
