Searching for squid game could reveal an invitation card that opens a fullscreen “Red Light, Green Light” mini-game. It was reported to work on desktop and mobile at launch, but its availability now is not confirmed.
How to try the Google Search Easter egg
- Open Google Search on a desktop or mobile device.
- Search for squid game.
- Look near the top of the results for a floating invitation card associated with the show.
- Tap or click the card to open the fullscreen game.
- Select Go while the doll is facing away, and Stop when it turns around.
The original launch report also listed Red Light, Green Light as an alternate search query. The card’s placement or appearance may vary, and it may no longer be offered.
What the mini-game does
The Search experience recreates one challenge from the show, rather than adapting the full series. Six characters move forward when you select Go; when Young-hee turns around, select Stop. Characters that keep moving at the wrong moment are caught. The interaction is a small Search game, not the show’s lethal scenario.
A sound control appears in the lower-right corner. Audio is optional for understanding the basic Go-and-Stop mechanic. No broader accessibility features are established by the launch report.

Why the card may not appear
The feature was reported on desktop and mobile when it launched, but no complete compatibility list for devices, browsers, countries, languages, or account settings was published. Its absence does not necessarily mean the query is wrong: Google may have retired or limited the Easter egg, or it may not appear in a particular Search interface.
- Check the spelling, then try both squid game and Red Light, Green Light.
- Check the upper portion of the results page for the invitation card.
- Refresh the page, or try Search in a browser if you started in the Google app; if possible, also compare desktop and mobile.
- If you use content-blocking browser extensions, temporarily disable them to see whether the interactive card appears.
These are practical checks, not an official Google troubleshooting procedure. Updating the Google app cannot guarantee access if the feature is no longer being served.

When Google added it—and what is known about availability
Contemporaneous coverage dated the Easter egg to December 26, 2024, alongside the release of Season 2. That report confirms the launch, but it does not establish that the feature remains permanently available. No official Google status confirmation establishes whether it is active in August 2026, so treat it as a feature you can try rather than one guaranteed to appear. 9to5Google’s launch report describes the original card, controls, and desktop and mobile experience.

No. The Search Easter egg is an embedded mini-game and does not require downloading Netflix’s separate Squid Game: Unleashed. The distinct app has its own multiplayer challenges; its Google Play listing says a Netflix membership is not required.
