What is Craig Melvin’s Bottoms Up campaign?
Bottoms Up is a charitable awareness and fundraising event—not a medical screening program or a product line. It brings together a golf tournament and concert to benefit the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, with Melvin and Czarniak as hosts and organizers.
The inaugural event took place in August 2022 at Shorehaven Golf Club in Norwalk, Connecticut. In its 2022 announcement, the Alliance said proceeds would help get more people screened, help patients navigate treatment and fund research. Melvin described the gathering as a way to enjoy time with friends while supporting the effort to end colorectal cancer.
Why does the event honor Lawrence Meadows?
The event is held in memory of Lawrence Meadows, Melvin’s brother, who died of colorectal cancer at age 43. The Alliance’s 2026 announcement described the fifth annual event as honoring Meadows and supporting the organization’s work.

How much has the Bottoms Up Invitational raised?
The Colorectal Cancer Alliance has reported these totals at different points in the event’s history. They are dated figures, not a single undated current total.

What is the Colorectal Cancer Alliance?
The Colorectal Cancer Alliance is the nonprofit beneficiary of Bottoms Up. In the event’s 2022 announcement, the Alliance said its fundraising priorities included screening, support for patients navigating treatment and research. Michael Sapienza, then the Alliance’s CEO, praised Melvin and Czarniak’s commitment to raising awareness and helping people affected by colorectal cancer.
The Alliance’s patient information describes colorectal cancer as cancer of the colon or rectum. Screening can find precancerous polyps or detect cancer early. Its FAQ names colonoscopy, stool-DNA testing and the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) as screening options. Which option is appropriate depends on a person’s health history and circumstances, so discuss screening with a health care provider rather than treating one test as right for everyone.

What should readers know about screening and symptoms?
The Alliance FAQ says average-risk adults should begin screening at age 45. People with risk factors—including a family or personal history, certain inflammatory bowel diseases or inherited syndromes—may need screening earlier, based on advice from a health care provider. See the Alliance’s colorectal cancer FAQ and risk guide, and ask a clinician about individual risk and screening choices.
The Alliance notes that colorectal cancer may have no symptoms, which is why routine screening matters. Possible symptoms listed in its FAQ include blood in or on stool, persistent unusual bowel movements, ongoing stomach pain or cramps, and unexplained weight loss. These signs are not a diagnostic checklist; seek medical advice about symptoms or questions.

The Alliance’s risk guide also discusses general risk-reduction habits: eating a varied diet with fruits, vegetables and whole grains; limiting red and processed meat and alcohol; not smoking; maintaining a healthy weight; and exercising. These are general health recommendations, not a guarantee against cancer.

The Alliance announced the fifth-anniversary fundraiser in August 2026 as a two-day event planned for September 13–14 in Fairfield, Connecticut.
