Tom Grennan and Richard Keys are among the best-documented celebrity supporters of Coventry City. Grennan spoke about his attachment to the club in a 2023 ITV News Central report, while Keys explicitly said “I support Coventry City” in a 2003 interview with The Guardian. Other famous names appear in a fan directory, but the available evidence for them is less direct.
Tom Grennan: a fan who spoke about Coventry’s community
In a report published on 22 May 2023, ITV News Central described singer-songwriter Tom Grennan as a fellow Sky Blues fan. Grennan explained that he had helped an Argentine supporter travel to the Wembley play-off final because he wanted him to “experience the way I feel when I’m at Coventry.” He also described the club’s supporters as a family, saying that the community means a great deal to everyone who backs Coventry.
That account is direct evidence of Grennan’s personal connection to attending Coventry matches, rather than merely an association based on his celebrity or a performance. In May 2026, he also performed at the club’s promotion celebration at War Memorial Park, according to BBC Sport. The performance establishes public involvement in a club event; his 2023 comments provide the clearer explanation of his own support.
Richard Keys: “I support Coventry City”
Broadcaster Richard Keys stated his allegiance plainly in a Guardian interview published on 9 May 2003: “I support Coventry City.” Asked why, he gave a personal reason: “For geographical reasons: I was born in Coventry.”

Keys also named the 1987 FA Cup final as the best game he had seen, calling it so “for obvious reasons.” It is a specific link between his stated support and one of the defining occasions in the club’s history. His statement is explicit, though the interview is dated; it should not be mistaken for a recent update on his current match-going habits.
Other famous names associated with Coventry City
C.F. Classics’ secondary directory lists Eddie Jordan, David Moorcroft, Jimmy Hill, Alistair McGowan, The Enemy, Vince Hill, Paul King and Neville Staple, as well as Keys. The directory is useful as a source of names, but it does not give each person the same level of first-person evidence. Those entries should therefore be understood as reported associations, not as equivalent confirmation of current support.

The Enemy’s appearance at Coventry’s 2026 promotion celebration is documented by BBC Sport, but performing at a club event does not by itself establish every band member’s personal fan history. The same distinction matters for other public figures: a connection to Coventry, a club appearance or a directory listing is not the same as a direct statement of support.
What the 2026 promotion celebration shows
BBC Sport reported that more than 50,000 supporters attended Coventry City’s 2026 promotion celebration at War Memorial Park, where Grennan and The Enemy performed. The report described the club’s return to the Premier League as its first in 25 years. That large turnout illustrates the scale of the occasion, but it is an event attendance figure—not a count of celebrity fans.

At the celebration, chairman Doug King said, “I think we are going to need that [sense of togetherness] as we head into our next adventure.” His comment is club context rather than evidence about any celebrity’s allegiance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How firmly can these celebrity connections be described?
- Direct, dated statements: Keys explicitly said he supports Coventry in a 2003 interview; Grennan discussed what being at Coventry means to him in ITV’s 2023 report.
- Recent public involvement: Grennan and The Enemy performed at the 2026 promotion celebration, as reported by BBC Sport. This documents participation in a club event, not a complete record of their fan histories.
- Secondary listings: Other names appear in C.F. Classics’ directory, but the entries should not be presented as equally well-confirmed first-person accounts.
The available material does not establish a reliable total or ranking of Coventry City’s celebrity supporters. The strongest answer is therefore a short, evidence-led one: Grennan and Keys have clear, individually sourced connections, while other names warrant more qualification.
