Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey was promoted with a reported six-minute prologue in selected IMAX screenings in December 2025. The announcement named Sinners and One Battle After Another as initial pairings; later coverage also listed IMAX screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Those screenings have passed. Reports confirmed the prologue’s length and venues, but did not verify that its footage showed an epic battle.
What was the six-minute prologue?
TheWrap reported on December 9, 2025, that IMAX and Universal would present a six-minute prologue from Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey. It was a longer preview segment, distinct from the standard trailer also planned for some screenings. TheWrap said the standard trailer would accompany non-IMAX screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, while the prologue was associated with IMAX screenings. TheWrap’s announcement report described the planned pairings.

Première’s December 10 report called the segment nearly six minutes and specified IMAX 70mm for the initial U.S. screenings. It also reported that the prologue would play before IMAX screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash the following weekend. That format detail applies to the screenings Première described; the available reports do not establish that every venue showing the prologue used IMAX 70mm. Première’s report gives its account of the rollout.
Where and when did it screen?
The dates were scheduled for December 2025, not future screenings. The initial announcement named IMAX screenings of Sinners and One Battle After Another; Première subsequently described the Avatar: Fire and Ash IMAX screenings as another opportunity to see it. The sources establish these pairings, not a complete venue-by-venue list or a universal presentation format.

Did the prologue show an epic battle?
The reports cited here do not describe the prologue’s footage, so they do not confirm that it showed a battle. “Teases epic battle” should therefore be read as a characterization, not a verified scene description. Universal’s production information says the film references the Trojan Horse in flashbacks and draws on details from other surviving sources to depict Troy; that is adaptation context, not evidence of what appeared in the preview. The reproduced Universal production information does not provide a scene-by-scene account of the prologue.
Who is making the film, and who plays Odysseus?
Universal identifies Christopher Nolan as the writer and director and Matt Damon as Odysseus. The film adapts Homer’s epic poem. In the production information, Nolan describes the source as “an incredible work that’s extremely important to the history of the world and development of culture, but it has never been adapted as a modern blockbuster.” Universal Pictures Canada’s film page lists the credits and cast; the quoted comment appears in the production information reproduced by in70mm.com.

When is The Odyssey opening?
Release dates vary by territory. Universal Pictures Canada labels the film “NOW PLAYING” and lists July 17, 2026 as its Canadian theatrical opening date. Première reported July 15, 2026 for France. These are territory-specific dates, not one worldwide opening date.
