The available reporting does not verify that Cody Ko’s follower count has recently cratered or that Kelsey Kreppel has turned off Instagram comments. The headline’s claims should be treated as unconfirmed, not as established events.
What is and is not confirmed
The source containing the exact headline as image text is a January 25, 2026 TAFT Independent article about speculation over whether Ko and Kreppel are still together. Its body does not substantiate a recent follower-count decline or a change to Kreppel’s Instagram comment settings. A headline or image text is not evidence that either event occurred.
To establish a follower-count drop, a report would need to identify the platform, the count and its measurement date, a baseline count and date, the interval being compared, and the data source. To establish that comments were turned off, it would need to identify Kreppel’s account and the specific post, document the observation date, and distinguish an owner’s setting change from comments being unavailable for another reason. The cited sources do not provide those details for a current event.
What TIME reported in July 2024
TIME published two reports about the 2024 controversy surrounding Tana Mongeau’s allegation about Ko. They include historical platform metrics and reports about comments directed at Kreppel, but they do not establish the claims in the headline for 2026.

| Reported observation | Platform and timeframe | Attribution and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| More than 160,000 followers lost in a month | Followers; TIME’s wording does not identify this as an Instagram-only figure | TIME attributed the figure to SocialBlade in its July 2024 coverage. It is historical, not a current count. |
| Over 270,000 subscribers lost in the prior month | YouTube subscribers | TIME attributed the figure to SocialBlade in its July 2024 report. Subscribers are not interchangeable with followers on another platform. |
TIME also reported that Kreppel received hate comments on YouTube videos and faced pressure and comments on her page during the controversy. Those reports do not show that she disabled Instagram comments, either then or now.
Why the numbers and comments should not be conflated
- Followers and subscribers are different metrics. The 2024 YouTube subscriber figure cannot be described as an Instagram follower loss.
- A historical measurement does not establish a current trend. The TIME figures refer to the 2024 controversy and cannot substantiate a 2026 decline.
- Comments being unavailable is not, by itself, proof of a setting change. A dated observation tied to a specific Instagram account and post would be needed to support that claim.
What the available evidence says about the controversy
In its July 2024 coverage, TIME quoted commentator D’Angelo Wallace: “I am privileged enough to be listened to, but that doesn’t mean it should take a D’Angelo Wallace video before someone’s allegations of really heinous things are taken seriously.” TIME identified Wallace’s video as bringing broader attention to the issue. This is context for the 2024 controversy, not a statement about Ko’s current follower count or Kreppel’s Instagram settings.
