WWE executives Bruce Prichard, Triple H and Nick Khan presented it to him.
What happened to Dusty Rhodes’ Rolex?
Dusty Rhodes had pawned the watch, and Cody later explained that the money helped him attend acting school in Los Angeles. After Cody’s championship win at WrestleMania XL, WWE executives Bruce Prichard, Triple H (Paul Levesque) and Nick Khan presented him with the watch backstage. In a post-show press conference excerpt published by USA Network, Cody said: “It’s the same watch my dad had that he pawned so he could go to acting school.”
The distinction between the reunion and later coverage matters: the watch was returned in April 2024, while ESPN’s video retelling was published on April 3, 2025.
Why was the watch meaningful to Cody?
Cody recalled trying on his father’s watch as a child and imagining that it might one day be passed down to him. In a later interview with GQ, he said trying it on was “pretty much an everyday thing.” Learning that it had been pawned—and then receiving it after a defining championship victory—made its return an emotional, full-circle moment.

What kind of Rolex was it?
The watch has been described as a gold Rolex Datejust. Time+Tide Watches visually estimates that it may be an 18-karat yellow-gold Datejust 36, and suggests reference 16238 or 116238 as possibilities. Those references are guesses, not confirmed identifications. The available reporting does not establish a serial number, production year or current market value.
Was it really Dusty Rhodes’ watch?
Cody identified it as the same watch his father had pawned, according to his post-WrestleMania account. ESPN’s description instead says Triple H gave Cody a watch identical to his father’s. Because accounts differ on whether it was the original or an identical watch, the safest summary is that Cody and the other reporting connected the returned Rolex to Dusty’s pawned watch, while the exact watch’s identity is not consistently described across sources.
