The Cobra Kai finale ends with Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso choosing to work together, while Karate Kid: Legends tells a new story centered on Li Fong. Daniel connects the film to the wider franchise, but the finale does not set up its plot.
How does Cobra Kai end?
After Kwon’s death suspends the Sekai Taikai, Terry Silver pushes to restart the tournament. The resumed competition brings Miyagi-Do, Cobra Kai and the Iron Dragons back into contention.
The tournament’s final fight
Samantha chooses not to fight, eliminating Miyagi-Do from the competition. Kreese gives Cobra Kai’s boys’ final place—the spot Kwon had held—to Miguel. Tory wins the girls’ championship against Zara, and Miguel beats Axel to claim the boys’ title. Cobra Kai and the Iron Dragons finish tied on team points, so the result comes down to a fight between their senseis: Johnny and Sensei Wolf.
Johnny defeats Wolf. Daniel stands in his corner wearing a Cobra Kai gi while keeping his Miyagi-Do headband. The visual makes the point: their victory comes from recognizing what each can learn from the other, not from one dojo’s philosophy replacing the other. Actor and executive producer Ralph Macchio described the balance this way: “Johnny needs Miyagi-Do, just like Daniel needs to call on some of his inner Cobra Kai to propel [him]. Without [both], they can’t succeed.” Netflix Tudum’s finale recap and interview presents this as Macchio’s interpretation of the ending.

What happens to Kreese and Silver?
Kreese and Silver face off on Silver’s yacht. Kreese ignites spilled fuel with his cigar, causing an explosion. The series does not show their bodies or confirm their deaths, so their fates remain ambiguous. Co-creator Hayden Schlossberg said it “looks like they’ve [both] been taken off the table,” while noting Kreese’s history of seeming to return from the dead.
Where the characters end up
The epilogue sends the younger characters toward different futures: Eli and Demetri head to college; Robby and Tory become influencers; and Miguel plans for Stanford and joins Sam’s trip to Okinawa. Kim Da-Eun trains students without the cruelty associated with her former approach, and Chozen visits her.

Johnny and Daniel run Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do together, combining their styles for a new class. In the final scene, they share a meal as friends, echoing a moment from the original The Karate Kid. Co-creator Josh Heald said the tag was intended to show that the two would remain friends, bicker and care about each other.

No. The finale’s closing beat belongs to Johnny and Daniel’s friendship and their shared dojos; it does not point to Li Fong, Mr. Han or a new tournament as the next event in their story. That distinction describes what the finale establishes—it does not rule out every possible future crossover.

Karate Kid: Legends is connected to the franchise through Daniel LaRusso, but its premise follows a new protagonist. Sony’s official synopsis describes kung fu prodigy Li Fong relocating to New York and training with Mr. Han and Daniel. It does not describe the film as a continuation of the events at the end of Cobra Kai.
The creative relationship is distinct from that story connection. In a Television Academy interview published February 21, 2025, co-creator Josh Heald said of the movie: “The movie is from a separate arm of Sony and doesn’t overlap with our wheelhouse.” He described the series as “the end of the mothership,” while also saying the creators had ideas for another iteration, dependent on discussions with Sony and Netflix. His openness to a possible future series is separate from the film’s status: his comments do not make Legends a handoff from the finale.
